I think this weekend is a chance for stars to be born or a chance for a bunch of fighters to flop. Hopefully the former, and down the road when Sean Sherk, Anderson Silva, or Frankie Edgar are listed on cards, it will cultivate hype all on its own.
Well, when Sherk and Anderson Silva's names are on a card there is excitement on the part of fans who are in the know. I get what you are saying though for sure.

I still think that Liddell is a bit overrated by most fans though. I know he is the poster boy for UFC but.. Look at who other individuals in his weight class have fought compared to who he has fought 2 or more times.. i mean.. thats nit picking but.. haha
Liddell has been vastly overrated the last few years, Dana has done a great job of building him up. He really hasn't fought ANY great strikers during his reign, mostly just guys who try to take him down and get caught. This is all the strategy of Dana White, he knows Liddell doesn't really push the pace as a striker but is great when people dive in on him, he also has the best takedown defense ever. Think about it, he basically fought NONE of the other top 5-7 205s in the world (all in Pride) during his reign, and when he finally did he got dropped in 2 minutes and was thoroughly out-strategized.
totally agree..

i hope rashad knocks tito out the box.

well.. first off hermes is a fucking blackbelt in bjj.. you don't give that dude an inch and trying to finish someone like that GnP style can be a bitch.. go watch some of hermes's other fights.. dude is a fucking master.. sherk did what he had to do.. he was working non-stop and smothering hermes which was exactly what he needed to do.. i found his positioning and grappling skills were exciting. i guess it just depends on what you appreciate..

as far as damage goes.. you must have been watching a different fight hermes was fucking gased. thats called dot.. damage over time..

Sherk was shooting in for take downs with no set-up

no over-hand right, no fake, just shooting out of nowhere. he deserved to get his head smacked with knees like that.

also, :larry david: @ his jiu-jitsu. with his positioning he had more than enough chances to grab a submission.

LOL @ the evans/ ortiz draw. who woulda thought.

also, evans has shit for strategy. Last round, Tito looks tired, and you're just going to dance around the outside? Get your head out of your ass.

Jeez, Marquardt got fucking beaned. Did I hear a thud with Marquardt's head bouncing off the mat?

I hope Sherk was watching Kenny Florian for a tutorial in effective ground n' pound. Good job, Ken-flo

I'm gonna kill somebody if these movie previews stop them from showing the undercard. You've got 15 more minutes!

this is BS , they didnt show all the undercards, fuckin assholes

also , L, Sherk doesnt need to watch Florian do the ground & pound, Florian fought a nobody compared to Sherk, Florian has NO CHANCE AT ALL, AT ALL against Sherk, Sherk fought one of the best BJJ fighters in the world which is the sole reason why he couldnt finish

Sherk Vs Florian = Sherk --i will put $1,000 on it, test me !!!! :gyeah:

Alvin Robinson is supposedly a jiu-jitsu specialist. Check his record.

Also, Franca is completely susceptible to ground and pound. I can show you a Hook N' Shoot fight where he was GnD'd unconscious. Sherk just didn't put the kabosh (sp) on him. His corner was repeatedly telling him to bounce the elbow off his face any chance he got.

Sherdog has a Beatdown After The Bell show on in about 10 minutes if you're looking for some post-fight radio banter.

Exactly, Sherk is not a finisher and an absolute bore to watch. He is a guy who controls you and lays on you for 5 5 minute rounds, horrible to watch even though he is strong as an ox.

I agree. Basically it's Sherk's gameplan to control his opponent, and he sacrifices a lot of opportunities to do damage in pursuit of that. While over three rounds this isn't so bad, watching a full 5 rounds of it is just tedious, and he really needs to watch out for people starting to look at him like Tim Sylvia: a champ that no one cares about watching.

meh. i think differently. sherk was working non-stop doing his thing.. it was absolute domination on the mat..

perhaps it is an acquired taste.

as far as alvin being a submission specialist.. meh.. he wasn't doing shit.

so are you all saying Florian > Sherk?

i dont think so

and L. so what? once Franca got GnP on? cmon man, how many fights did he fight?

Lets just leave it at--- Sherk doesnt need to watch Florian finish, Florian will be completely dominated on agains Sherk i dont care if Sherk makes sweet sexy love to him for 5 rounds...fighting is fighting

the end

No, I don't have an opinion on Sherk/ Ken-Flo II at all. I was merely stating that Florian rained abuse on his opponent and Sherk just sorta....hugged his.

this is sherk's time to prove the doubters wrong..

if he 'finishes' penn i wonder what people will say..

sherk needs to work on submissions but.. still he is great..

as the beatdown guys are saying right now..
