A GM can completely destroy your team, Kahn with Timberwolves, or can make power plays like Pat Riley did with the heat. I would say a GM can have a bigger -/+ impact on a team. But to think a coach is not important is just retarded. They are extremely important and if you can't see a huge difference between Vinny Del Negros and Gregg Popovitch then you don't know basketball.

im gonna say head coach gets the edge here because ultimately the long term viability of a basketball team in terms of winning and losing and quality play in a sport where a good starters career can easily be 8-10+ yrs has a lot to do with how well they are coached and what the team concept is on and off the floor. if iverson was a spur (lets just say) dude wouldve been on some whole other shit probably and it absolutely wouldve had an effect on his game and his career and his production. same thing if duncan was a 76er or a clipper. and that is because of the coaching situations where you have a coach who is dedicated to fundamentally sound play and who nurtured an atmosphere of cooperation and team vs whatever the fuck the 6ers had going on where they just got dudes because they looked talented or unique back in the day (remember the sharone wright shawn bradley combo?)...i have no idea about whats going on right now though...

it seems like all this gm vs coach talk is really the product of a tremendous amount of isolation concepts that seem to be all over the nba especially with the big stars like kobe and lebron and carmelo
