Kobe Bryant
Very simple, where does he rank for you among the best of all-time? We all say MJ is our #1, where do you rank Kobe?

Because some ppl have short-term memory or were just too young, let me throw out a few names. Not saying they're better, but just to help you put things in perspective.

Re: Kobe Bryant
To me, if you put jordan as 1, then you have to put kobe as 2, because he was very close to jordan. If you don't put jordan as 1, then it's a whole different conversation.Philaflava wrote:Because some ppl have short-term memory or were just too young, let me throw out a few names. Re: Kobe Bryant
Lol at bill russell being better than kobe. Let's be real, bill russell wouldn't even get a max contract in today's NBA. He was a one dimensional defensive player that is heralded, because of all the championship teams he was on.Tweak Da Leak wrote:lol @ Gucci

Bill Russell is better than Jordan and Kobe. He won 11 championships, 5 MVP, 12 all star games. I could keep going.GUCCI CONDOMS wrote:You think bill russell was better than kobe?capable_keL wrote:Most preposterous statement ever. Sit this one out bro.
If not for Bill Russell there would be no Jordan or Kobe. He revoltionized basketball. Learn the game bro

Re: Kobe Bryant
Bill Russell went head to head with the behemoth Wilt and beat him the majority of the time(even when the Lakers were favored over an aging Celtics team, they had the balloons ready in the rafters in LA)
You know the same Wilt that in the twilight of his career schooled young Kareem, the same Kareem who schooled young Shaq, etc.

I'd argue Wilt revolutionized basketball (I.E. creating the need for the three seconds rule), not Russell.capable_keL wrote:Bill Russell is better than Jordan and Kobe. Re: Kobe Bryant
idk.. when these type of debates start I can't help but think that "athletes" are so much above and beyond what we saw in the earlier era's...
strength, speed... etc.. kobe faced bigger/stronger/faster opponents and still put up ridiculous numbers.. plus all the other intangibles.. so he certainly is top 10 to me.. and full disclosure i voted top 5..

@kel
a good point that I personally don't buy into. Fred brown not the fastest guy in the world. but he's a gawd because he was making shots from literally everywhere on the court. literally everywhere. guys like Barkeley Rodman bill Russell (jordan) these guys intuitively knew how to dominate the space around them. it's a brains over everything else thing. Kobe is not up to that level. just my two cents.

Re: Kobe Bryant
10-15 range
While counting rings is a dumb way to rank players, Kobe was NOT the main reason for any of those finals series wins. He is a great player, but overrated. Funny to say that about a player who is top 15 ever..
No particular order, and besides the obvious GOATs trying to stay recent:
Shaq
Jordan
Lebron
Duncan
Magic
Bird
Abdul-Jabbar
KG
Russell
Chamberlin
At no time in Kobe's career was he the best player in the NBA.
*edit*
and the different era athletes argument doesn't sit well with me. Look at the gap between the player and the competition at the time. They obviously put work in, you don't think they would of taken advantage of newer technology/training/nutrition/etc. to create that same gap if they were playing in a more recent era?

Re: Kobe Bryant
outside of top 12. Leaving Wilt/Russell/OscarR off and focusing on 1980 on, KAJ best days were in the 70s but he was dominant enough in the 80s in his 30s to know he's a beast
MJ
Shaq
KAJ
Lebron
Duncan
These 5 are just miles better than Kobe, like 5+ years better than his best year. Absolute most generous case you have him #6 since the next group you can start making cases Kobe> but those 5 just shit on him.
Hakeem
Magic
KG
Bird(also overrated)
Kobe matches up bad with them, Bird is pretty close since Bird is the original Kobe and not half as good as advertised.
Durant is better but doesn't have enough years in.

Re: Kobe Bryant
Because he gets thrown in the top10 conversation too and like Kobe is well below that level
