No problem. Is Clay Matthews a dominant force against the run?naturalborn103 wrote:Stop looking at just sacks #s.
He also has been playing very good against the run.According to STATS, Matthews has a combined 19.5 quarterback knockdowns and hurries, which ranks No. 1 in the NFL, just ahead of Minnesota's Jared Allen (18), who comes into the Vikings' matchup with the Packers on Sunday leading the NFL with 9.5 sacks.
What's more, Matthews has deflected four passes, registered three tackles for loss and not surrendered a touchdown in coverage. Much of what he has accomplished has been done with offenses devoting a lot of attention to him.

kel...what's with the references to BJ Novak?article wrote:After ending up with a -4.9 run defense rating in 2010, he currently has a +6.0; a significant improvement. In six games, he has collected four tackles for losses, three tackles for no gain, three for short gains, and one fourth down stop. Not only is he making more good plays in the run game, but he is also producing fewer negative plays. Last year he had a negative run defense rating on 13.2% of run plays, typically due to someone on offense successfully blocking him, but this year that is down to 9.5%. In 2009, Matthews was far more balanced between being a good run defender and a good pass rusher, and weגre seeing more of that again this year..
So he has improved from mediocre against the run to fairly good.Dunnnnleavy wrote:COOLEHMAGAZINE wrote:No problem. Is Clay Matthews a dominant force against the run?naturalborn103 wrote:Stop looking at just sacks #s.an-also wrote:

Crown him!
Like I said, he is a good player but when people were seriously discussing him for DPOY last year...that's overrating him IMO. The way the Packers are playing offense, with two Pro Bowl corners behind him, an elite pass rusher should be wrecking shop.
He is the 5th best 3-4 OLB in the league. Nothing to sneeze at but pretty much in the same neighborhood as Brian Orakpo.

Best play I saw Sunday, and it wasn't close: Green Bay tight end Andrew Quarless came in motion from the left of a trips-left formation (three receivers to the left), and when the ball was snapped, obliterated Jared Allen on a block, leveling him. The play broke down, Quarless ran out and put his right hand up; Aaron Rodgers rolled right and found him. Gain of 21. Go find this play if you've got NFL Game Rewind -- second quarter, 11:43 to play. You'll love Quarless' energy.
