Wouldn't he want a deal longer than 2 years though?

wouldn't mind Haren. Just think Huddy's game isn't going to change much from what it's been for the last 5 years. Ankle should be fine.

Man look....we survived the Zito contract, and even came out on the other side with a couple rings. The fuck do I care if they give Haren an extra year or two?

Gloss defended the Delmon signing last year too, for the record.

I'm not sure who's a bigger idiot, Amaro for signing this dumb faggot, or our new outfielder who had this genius revelation:
Byrd was a different type of hitter in 2013. He hit the ball on the ground just 39.2 percent of the time, according to batted-ball data from FanGraphs.com. It was his lowest percentage since 2005. More of his contact was in the air, a trend that bodes well for playing at Citizens Bank Park.

The adjustment came while he worked last winter with Doug Latta at a suburban Los Angeles baseball facility called the Ballyard.

"When I say it out loud, it sounds kind of silly," Byrd said by phone. "My whole career, I've been taught to hit the top of the ball. When I started breaking down the swing, I realized when you hit the top of the ball, the ball goes down and it's a ground ball. If you can stay through the middle of the ball, you can get the ball in the air. That's what we worked on to try to drive the ball for more power."

It worked, and that is part of why Amaro does not believe 2013 was an aberration.

Right. Wasn't he also open minded about the Michael Young deal?

thinking about starting a kickstarter campaign to hire someone to Nancy Kerrigan Amaro's contract signing arm before he signs Bronson Arroyo to a 3 year deal.

This offseason all the GMs in the league playing a more prolonged, intense version of the russian roulette scene from Deer Hunter. And the Arroyo deal is the bullet.

I really am not mad at the Byrd deal. The OF FA pool wasn't great and I don't want to invest 4-5+ years in guys 33 and older. Ellsbury is a fragile fag. Cruz is decling rapidly. I like Granderson but he will command big bucks.

This issue is not how much you pay him, or for how many years. He's affordable. The problem here is that he's now on your team, and is going to play in the outfield. And he sucks. That's what should concern you.

There is no guarantee he stays our RF. But if he does similar to what he did in '13 behind Howard, I'm okay with those power numbers. He is a decent glove, better than Young ever was. He represents a good power RH and can smash both RHP and LHP. Plus he is a minor investment given that values out there. Worst case, he platoons if we find better options. Still we didn't have to shell out 70 or 100M.

yeah the problem isn't that Byrd might be a serviceable player, or that his turnaround last year might not be for real, the problem is the process that goes behind our decision making.

Murph dog had a great article about this today

Hell yea bro. Christian Arroyo is gonna be the shit. I know some think that he was an overdraft, but I've been reading some pretty good things about him.

Well kinda. I saw that Rosenthal had it for two years, but Gelb has the deal at $26M/3 year.

Its a year longer than I'd prefer but overall I'm pretty happy with it. Even if he's only a part-time catcher by the end of it, $8.5 mill is still a pretty reasonable salary.

plus it means 3 more years of chooch interviews, which are thee bast

I feel like if I was a Phils fan, I'd be concerned that RAJ is dealing like he's in fast forward, while the rest of the league seems to be sitting back and letting the offseason play out a bit.

he's an impatient motherfucker. It doesn't matter when he makes his moves, he'd fuck them up no matter what.

Law raised an interesting point the other day though, that all of the way-too-early-for-too-much-money deals that he's signed since becoming GM have been for clients of his former agents. Ibanez, Papelbon and Byrd are all clients of the Levinson brothers. The same Levinson brothers that have been in several scandals lately, just last year were accused of setting up their players with PEDs. The whole thing is shady as shit.

Perfect. He had an interesting perspective a few years back about how Lincecum needed to focus less on striking batters out, and instead learn the value of getting outs by any means necessary. Should be fun to see if he's able to mentor Lincecum in that regard over the course of the next couple years.

I was bruised and battered, I couldn't tell what I felt
I was unrecognizable to myself
I saw my reflection in a window, I didn't know my own face
Oh brother are you gonna leave me wastin' away
On the Streets of Philadelphia

I walked the avenue, 'til my legs felt like stone,
I heard the voices of friends vanished and gone,
At night I could hear the blood in my veins,
Black and whispering as the rain,
On the Streets of Philadelphia

Ain't no angel gonna greet me
It's just you and I my friend
My clothes don't fit me no more,
I walked a thousand miles
Just to slip this skin

The night has fallen, I'm lyin' awake,
I can feel myself fading away,
So receive me brother with your faithless kiss,
Or will we leave each other alone like this
On the Streets of Philadelphia

Baggs said Giants don't like any of the corner OF options on the market, so they'll probably go with Blanco in a platoon again next season. So that fucking sucks.
