Entertaining first half. England look better than I thought but they're getting owned in the midfield. Rooney (aside from the great assist) and Henderson are non-existent.

That's about as good as two touches can be.

Love Yaya, but Ivory Coast are always so underwhelming.

Is Soloman Kalou the worst player ever or is that just me? I have literally never seen him do anything even marginally decent. It's all heavy touches and moon rockets.

Yeah, they have all this talent but have never gotten out of the group stage yet a team like Ghana is much less talented but has had far more success. They just look like a team that's never in-sync and never plays with any urgency and Yaya always seems like he's coasting (even when he's not hurt).

Kalou is good as a front man and has impressed for Lille but he's been a lot less effective on the wings.

Plus, Gervinho.

They've actually looked pretty good in the last 20 minutes or so. End product sucks though. Wonder when we'll see Drogba. Bony's been active, so maybe they sacrifice someone else. Regardless would be surprised if they don't get at least one goal. Japan needs another to win, I think.

Amazing how much confidence Drogba gives them. Wonder why he didn't start.

Edit: Hahahaha fucking Gervinho man

The Elephants could be a problem.
Every day is like Christmas when it's world cup time. Interested to see what this Swiss team is all about.

That's just a meaningless soundbite you picked up somewhere.

They've only been @ the WC twice before. First time they were in the same group as Argentina and Holland, second time around they were up against Portugal and Brazil. Never stood a fair chance because African teams get a raw deal in the seeding.

Drogba really inspired them, Toure just runs around and sulks whenever hes given responsibility to lead.

nah, because it's partially due to them having the best shirts this year.

and no Nasri or Pedobiery, which makes any team instantly likeable

I know that Argentina is without Higuain and Gago but this 532 seems like a pretty conservative decision for a favorite.

Yeah and they got the lucky goal from the start. Doesn't look as if they could've scored one themselves. Gutted for Bosnia. Go Pjanic!

It's pretty shocking how poor the depth is in the Argentina midfield. When I was growing up it seemed like they constantly had a stream of guys like Veron, Simeone, Zanetti, etc. Now their best midfielder has spent the majority of the past 3 years on the wing and their second best has played almost exclusively in defense during that span.

And that's not even going into their defense.

The more I look at these teams the more wide open this tournament looks. Not to say Iran or Honduras could win, but why not some team like Columbia or Belgium? Regardless, you gotta love the WC.

Well then. Switch back to 433 really opened ARG up and gave Messi a little space to work in. They look pretty damn good right now.

The team is begging for a creative midfielder. So much attacking talent, no one to link it all up.

Some of the favorites will peak later in the tournament I think. Once you get past the quarterfinals theres rarely a lot of unexpected results imo.

But great WC so far and its just been a few days. Lots of goals.

The true test is the knockout-stages where I hope every other game wont go to penalties.

Games have been so damn good thus far. Only 11 in, but sweet jesus we're seeing some memorable performances. And Germany-Portugal, USA-Ghana tomorrow. Amazing.

No one made any bets at all?

I decided not to before the cup started and wait a bit instead. Think I'm going to go with Italy @ odds 18. What's not to love? Depth in every position, great teamspirit, big game players.

Doubt anyone but Neymar will get the golden boot, but Robben for topscorer @ 16? RVP @ 9?
