That was a fun deadline. Love the moves the Giants made. The prospects were a high price but you gotta win when you can.

If Prince Fielder indeed walks away, he'll retire with 319 career homers, which is the same total as his dad, Cecil Fielder.

Yankees are straight up evil and done A-Rod dirty. They let Derek Jeter putz around for years at short stop but throw A-Rod out the door almost ASAP? Fuck them.

Yeah this is the first time ever where I felt bad for A-Rod. Clearly they didn't want to make him that 5M bonus either once he broke 700.

Cubs apologize for song, fire employee involved
1:23 PM ET
ESPN.com news services

The Cubs said an employee played Prodigy's "Smack My Bitch Up" after Chapman pitched the ninth inning of a 6-4 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals. That employee was fired Monday.

"We apologize for the irresponsible music selection during our game last night," Cubs president of baseball operations Crane Kenney said in a statement. "The selection of this track showed a lack of judgment and sensitivity to an important issue. We have terminated our relationship with the employee responsible for making the selection and will be implementing stronger controls to review and approve music before public broadcast during our games."

Chapman, who the Cubs acquired from the New York Yankees at the trade deadline, missed the first 29 games of this season under baseball's domestic violence policy. He was involved in an October incident where he allegedly choked his girlfriend.

Police did not file charges against the Cuban-born left-hander, citing insufficient evidence, conflicting stories and uncooperative witnesses. Major League Baseball announced Chapman's suspension in early March, two months after the Yankees traded four minor leaguers to the Cincinnati Reds for the All-Star closer.

The Utley love fest yesterday was pretty amazing.
I am clearly biased but I don't think any city has every universally loved a player as much as Philly has Utley.

I think MN needs to trade him, it's clear the team is shit and going to be shit for at least 2 more years he's going to fetch a ton since he has a 2/15 contract for what you'd expect to pay 50+ for.

I hate how bad baseball players get fucked at the beginning of their career where someone like Trout needs to sign for 1/4th his value just to get out of arbitration. It would have been amazing to watch the bidding war over a 25yr old Trout, I mean 10/500 had to be in play if he was a FA coming into the year.

Exactly. Dozier's going to be 30 years old next year and Jorge Polanco is out of option and can play 2nd base. No offense about Dozier but can the Twins sell high on this once PLEASE?

And yeah, I dunno about the rest of that young players bidding war stuff. The team control provisions are supposed to try and keep it more equal between poor/smaller market teams and rich/bigger market teams. Otherwise the NYC and LA teams would just buy everything, etc.

Such unbelievably shitty news to wake up to. Forget that fact as fans we are robbed, but he was just 24. He seemed like such a good dude IRL too.

It was the best baseball moment I can recall since maybe Jeter's 3000 hit as a HR.

I think him taking the first pitch as a righty with Jose's helmet on, made it even more special.

I think he hit a few last year. Don't forget he missed most of this year too. Definitely not a power guy, so the HR wasn't all that surprising. Even Ben Revere can go yard, but yeah, how he did it was magical.
