This is really the only time i sit down and watch soccer. Its a nice treat every 4 years to root for your country to come up in a sport they're not really good at.

Fuck outta here. U.S. was like 5th in the world recently. We did really well last cup, Germany barely nipped us in the quarters. Friedel was a beast.

I believe the U.S. is releasing its World Cup roster tomorrow.

Unfortunately U.S. is in a tough group with Czech Republic, Italy, and Ghana. Czech should make it through fairly easily, many are picking them to win the whole damn thing. So basically its who is gonna finish second in the group and make it through.

Since I have English blood, I'm also hoping England goes far. Unfortunately they might be fucked now that Wayne Rooney broke his foot on Saturday. Out for six weeks they say, and England's first game is 6/10.

They say that he's very unlikely to play at all, which is a huge loss. Hopefully that fucker heals quickly.

Fifa confirm Rooney deadline
By Graeme Bailey - Created on 2 May 2006

Fifa have revealed that England will have until the day before their World Cup campaign begins to replace Wayne Rooney, should they need to.

It had previously been thought that The Three Lions would not be able to bring in a new player, if they named an already injured one on their 23-man squad - which needs to be named by May 23.

Rooney has been given six weeks to overcome the broken metatarsal bone in his foot, which he picked up against Chelsea at the weekend.

His two managers, Sven Goran Eriksson and Sir Alex Ferguson already appear to be at odds over Rooney's recovery - with the Swede insisting he will take Rooney if he has any chance of playing.

Ferguson has condemned that attitude, but Fifa's ruling means Rooney can be given over five weeks to recover before a decision needs to be made.

"Coaches will have players who are crucial to their team and who they hope will be fit in time for the tournament and this gives them a chance to recover fully right up to the beginning of their team's World Cup," Fifa's Andreas Herren confirmed.

"That provision is there for any player, provided a medical certificate confirms the injury.

"The diagnosis must be formed in a way that an independent observer or the Fifa medical specialist can logically draw a conclusion based on the case history and clinical findings.

"We had a similar approach over the last World Cup," Herren told Sky Sports News.

"The point is that Fifa want to make sure the players are sufficiently rested and recuperated.

"But we want all coaches to have options open to them."

England are now almost certain to name Rooney in their initial squad, and will then have until June 9 - the day before their opening game with Paraguay to decide whether to keep him with them in Germany.

I watched mostly every single game in 2002. I did not sleep for the whole month.

Czechs have some injuries and have a young team. I would not be surprised to see them lose to US in their first match. Italy is hit or miss...they need to step up their aggression a bit. Ghana, I don't know much about but I garauntee they'll be quick. unfortunately for the USA, I don't think they'll do quite as well as they did in 2002. I think they will place second in their group and lose in the second round.

Bruce arena will name his 23 man roster on today's Sports Center at 6pm ET.

With that said.....

GO MEXICO!!!!!!

USA was just ranked 4th by Fifa.

I know they are a tiny team, but not many teams can match their speed, nah mean?

No. See right there your disrespecting pippin and jordan. zidane is way past his prime and henry is more like a grant hill. Ronaldo and Ronaldinho = MJ & Scottie

But anyways the Brazil sqaud might be better in terms of greatest team assembled than the 92 olympic basketball team. They have the three best players in the world( Ronaldinho ( reigning 2 time poy), Ronaldo (3 poy), Adriano) plus many other stars. If you take those 3 players off the team they still win the cup. I dont want to hear anything about rooney or england cause that team is not gonna do anything regardless. The main threat to Brazil is probably Germany since home countries usually make it far in the tornament. Netherlands isnt bad either.

zidane is going out with a gold medal, ronaldo and and ronaldmcdonald dont want it with that 1-2 punch. j/k i havnt seen france play in 4 years when they choked but im gonna be rooting for them.
theres too many names on that dream team to be compared to brazil. They have the best 3 players in the world, dream team had about 5 of the top 10 players of all time, even though 2 were old and aids infected. dream team 2 > brazil

Unfortunately, with Rooney out now, our chances have gone Pharoahe Monch. I'm thinking Czech if not England.

I'm sorry 4th. Why is this funny?

Every cup people give the U.S. no credit. Quarters last time, beating Portugal and Mexico amongst others in the process.

The U.S. has a very good midfield with Donovan and Beasley, it will be interesting to see how their forwards do.

Having said that, the U.S. will be very lucky to even make it into the second round. Still, Ima watch every match.

Because FIFA rankings are a joke.

Honestly Brasil looks unbeatable but I'm sick of how arrogant they and their fans are. I hope they get upset and that a team comes outta nowhere like Liverpool did with their UEFA win.

first of all uve been hating on david robinson and now ur his #1 supporter. second hakeem ( the best player on that team at the time) was born in africa an he should have been playing for them. and third if these were american players and soccer was a bigger sport in america people would never stop talking about this team.

Ronaldinho = shaq
Ronaldo > dream
Adriano > hill
Kaka > penny
Robinho > kemp
Cicinho
Roberto Carlos > payton
Julio Baptista
Cafu
Lucio
Juninho
Emerson
Gilberto Silva
