I'm feelin Gemmy's EP 'Johnny 5'. His music is kind of similar to Joker's. I'm surprised he hasn't done any collabs with him since they're homies, guaranteed it would be dope. Joker is performing in LA on Saturday along with Nosaj Thing, that might be interesting.

Also, i don't know if anybody is down with Slugabed, he's definitely one of my favorite 'new' producers. Real nice dude as well, pretty much everything he touches is fire. He's dropping a 5 track Planet Mu EP in the coming months, it's all speaker smashing bangers.

Here's a recent remix of NastyNasty's 'The Reef' (who he's also doing a collab with):

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Q-izwb7Booc&hl ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Q-izwb7Booc&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

The NastyNasty single is one of my favorites of '09. Too much good music on the horizon, i can't wait.

So what are some essential grime albums I should check for? any uploads of those would be awesome as well.

this is the roll deep tune i meant to link to last time...

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/gZ45hFy95CY&hl ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/gZ45hFy95CY&hl=en_GB&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

roll deep just re-signed to relentless as it goes. fair enough.

as far as grime albums go it's a weird one cos most are a bit crap TBH. these are worth checking:

dizzee rascal - boy in da corner
durrty goodz - axiom
wiley - playtime is over/race against time
ruff sqwad - guns n roses vol.1
nasty crew - destruction: the classics
roll deep - rules & regulations/street classics
JME - boy better know vol 1-4
trim - soulfood vol 1/2
dot rotten - RIP young dot

agree with most of this 'cept vol. 3 is my fave soulfood, i think 'RIP young dot' is a little overrated + 'treddin' on thin ice' is my 2nd fave wiley album before 'race against time'

completely 100% agree with you

it's nowhere near perfect but that's kind of why it's so good...?

Really? I thought that album was pretty gash.

'Boy In Da Corner' is the only grime release that works for me as a proper cohesive album. Like, a decent front to back listen. Pretty much everything else has far too much shite amongst the good stuff.

Barknee - you going ATP next weekend?

There are days when I think Tinchy's Star in the Hood is the best grime album. It falls off a little in the second half but the first seven tunes are perfection, and half of the second half is great too. Also Dizzee's Showtime is great, and I think Roll Deep's Return of the Big Money Sound is brilliant too. Also Jammer's Are You Dumb Vol. 3 has some ridiculous tunes on it. And I strongly cosign the JME mixtapes.

As far as Wiley albums are concerned, I'd put 2nd Phaze, Grime Wave, Race Against Time & Best of Tunnel Vision ahead of Playtime is Over.

it's a bit wanky but i really like the way playtime is over shows all sides of wiley, good and bad... grime anthems, silly tunes, sweetboy tunes, commercial stuff, wiley going off as an emcee... theres some dross but it wouldn't be a wiley album without it... i definitely listen to it more than grimewave, tunnel visions etc even though they're all great

King Cannibal 'Let The Night Roar' is the best shit that came from this scene. One of the best records of the year.

I actually don't doubt that it's great for a second, truth be told I haven't really listened to it that much. Almost all Wiley records I don't really feel to begin with, then I rediscover them at a later date when my initial expectations have subsided. I didn't really like Grime Wave when it came out but it's been in heavy rotation the past few months. Even Umbrella is much better than I initially thought. So yeah, thanks for reminding me about PIO. Amazing to think that I've still got more Wiley stuff to really discover.

agree that "famous" is an excellent album and that "boy in da corner" is easily the most cohesive and complete grime album ever.

how come no one talked about this tume by JME?

Over Me easily had the funniest and best lines I've heard this year.

I've probably listened to playtime is over 4 times in the last couple days. Really enjoy that album a lot. Slippin, No Qualms, Getalong Gang are all really dope. Particularly Slippin.

i can honestly say i'm just coming from a diff perspective..
i appreciate most when an artist deliberately works on a single encompassing piece of work (read: album).. which is why i like those wiley & jme records so much.

thing is.. that sort of attitude is almost the antithesis of what grime came to represent which makes your opinion maybe even more valid
