Thread was made for this song specifically. And all those that didn't name it should go get a real job.

I was waiting for somebody to say Jeff Buckley's Hallelujah, surprise it took that long.

That's one of the only ones I can see myself agreeing with, I'm almost always of the opinion that covers cannot beat the originals, though there are obviously at least a few exceptions to every rule.

jimi's "all along the watchtower" is so far ahead of bob's version it's almost unfair to warrant mentioning in this discussion.

Maybe not better, but Tonedeff rips the "Champions" beat.

The cover that dwarfs the original more than any other is Jimi Hendrix's cover of Bob Dylans "All along the Watchtower."

I'm not sure if he's the one molding his career that way or if the people who handle him are doing that for him, but I know what you're saying. I don't enjoy about half of his shit but some of it is really cool and when i saw him live he did a cover of down in a hole that killed. Maybe I'm weighing that experience too heavily. I dunno.

I just don't get Oasis at all.

I am biased, because I never liked U2 much at all, but I think Saul Williams cover of their song Sunday Bloody Sunday is much better than the original.
