Greatest Metal Band Ever

Post by Masked Terror #1 »

You could make a strong argument for any one of these bands.

I wanted to add more bands to the poll, but these elite metal gods stand head and shoulders above the rest, so it didn'really make sense.

I love Kreator/Angel Witch/Amon Amarth/etc as much as the next guy, but are you really going to argue they belong among this Valhalla of metal deities?

I also planned on including at least one band to bridge the 20 year gap between when Metallica/Slayer dropped and when Mastodon hit the scene, but is there any legit contender from that era? I couldn't think of one.

So, who's it gonna be?

Very close between slayer, sabbath and metallica.

I'm going with Slayer.

i went with maiden. they turned me on to metal as a kid, so i had to give them some props. metalica could have been if they didnt fall off so hard. sabbath is sabbath we all get it. priest has some bangers, but electric eye killed it for me, slayer is the fucking truth, never checked mastadon, but maiden has been the metal group i listened to the longest.

I had to vote with my heart and go with Slayer. If the answer was Metallic pre 1991, that would have been the winner.

I'm riding with Metallica on this one.

The bigger they are, the harder they fall.

Me too. I won't hold their post '91 catalogue against them.

That's like holding Jordan's Wizard/Bullets career against him.

Yeah, absolutely.

They often slip my mind since I'm not really a huge fan.

Gonna add them now.

I'm not a huge metal fan, but my list would go:

1. Sabbath
2. Slayer
3. Sepultura (got carried away with alliteration, Metallica in third)

Well, I think the obvious choice is metallica.

Everyone is voting for Sabbath. That's only because they are the pioneers of this shit. People forget that the pioneers aren't supposed to be as good as what follows them because things are supposed to evolve and progress.

Honestly, in terms of musical prowess and artistry, put the best material of anyone of those bands against the best material of metallica and metallica wins. I think the main comp for them is mastodon, honestly.

I'm strictly going by musical talent, not biased due to memories or any nostaligic shit.

Had to go with Metallica since their greatest work, let's say Creeping Death, exceeds everyone elses.

Slayer may have sustained a longer career of dopeness, but Metallica climbed to the highest palteau on Mount Metal.
