I feel bad for making a request in this thread as basically the contributors are levels above myself. However, I have exhausted my resources at finding this album (I may suck at the internet):

Geater Davis "Sadder Shades of Blue: The Southern Soul Sessions 1971-76"

It seems like there is some over lap between this and "The Lost Soul Man" and I'll Play the Blues for You" but I would still love to hear it.

Nice, thanks! myfavouritesounds was a mad prolific blog for a while. Another one of them spots that I could not keep up with.
I'm still like 150 posts behind on that "holy warbles owlqaeda" blog.

^Word, that owlqaeda blog is crazy! Too bad I missed out on the myfavouritesounds blog. It's a good thing they kept their password easy to guess, otherwise I couldn't have cracked it.

RELEASE NOTES

"B.I.T.C.H. (Bored In The Crates Homage)" by Kankick aka KanZulu,
is best known for his debut on "The Antidote" Loop
Pack's 1st group project in 1995 on Stones Throw Records. Along with cousin Madlib,
Kankick is a producer, mc and dj.
During the early 90's, Kankick passed his DJ skills on to
Madlib. Since then, he's been part of various projects with
Mc's from the Stones Throw camp, Dudley Perkins, OhNo,
Madlib, and others like Group Home, Declaime, J Rawls,
Prince Po and more. Coming off his most recent instrumental
project "Seeing Spirits", Kankick is hard at work on his new
album to be released on Illmindmuzik. On this mix,
K-ZULU mixes some of the jazziest and most soulful beats,
straight from the dirty crates to your ears. Kankick blesses us with Funk, Soul and Jazz...
Most of these beats have been sampled by him or Madlib... very funky and
soulful. Str8 reppin the OX... LISTEN RECOVERY CREW....

It actually was for awhile, they had two blogs going for a bit and a different pass for each. I don't know why.

^hopefully he can refrain from puttin to much posts on the front page, it slows up my browser. Good lookin blog though, alot Indian shit, I saw the Stark Reality record on there.

Dust 2 Dust is a good one, it caters to the hip hop diggers by posting full albums of obscure music and compilations.

These blogs that allow you to dig are good but alota times I feel the need to just dig for and pick up an album with my own hands, rather than waiting on a bunch of digital downloads. Both have their advantages, I think if I had to choose 1 it would be physical digging. I come home with records I don't see posted on any blog sometimes.

Rodney Jones - When You Feel The Love is a solid jazz album from around 1980. It's not too funky or soulful with all sorts of fusion, but not too mainstream, clean electronic sounding either like some jazz artists started to do when the 80's rolled around. This is a mellow sound with plenty of Rhodes, bass guitar and standout drumming. I like hearing this as music to wake up in the morning or go to sleep by, it's that soothing, but with enough interesting elements that makes me want to listen closely time after time.

Jay Dee used one of the songs on one of his unreleased beat compilations, it was one of the early ones that came out on vinyl before Slum Village Fantastic 1 came out.

Good luck if you can find the album online, it's a rare one even on the blogs.

Another really great newer blog that you should check for:
http://blog.matthewafrica.com/
This dude, well I don't know who he is but he worked at that Groove Merchant store in San Fran back from 90-93. That store is a pretty famous digging spot that even started a couple of now known labels to re-issue very rare funk shit, and neo funk, and latin jazz funk ish. Luv N' Haight, Ubiquitous, and Cubop. They're the ones who are responsible for resurrecting the almighty DARONDO!

He recently did a mix of his favorite shit off the Luv N' Haight label for their 20th Anniversary.

Anybody ever heard this album?

Image

Apparently it's their first album (actually more of a comp). Found it a week ago while digging but haven't listened to it yet... Anyone know if this ever got sampled anywhere?

^I had this many years ago and remember getting amped when I found it but was kinda disappointed when I put it on the turntable. I'm not saying it's bad at all, it just didn't have the sound that their early and mid 70's albums had.
This is more typical late 60's soul stuff. There's a few joints I like, it's not a bad album at all.
It's just if you were expecting something like Ecstasy or Pain or Pleasure, this sounds nothing like those.
You can download this album and all their classics, basically a shit load of their albums here:

Drizzle:
here's another very promising looking thing that i can't find links for

Call it Gospel Funk! In truth, the sound of The Relatives is so much more. Brought together by veteran Gospel singer Gean West in 1971, their sound bridges the gap between traditional Gospel, Soul and Psychedelia. Over a span of four years, The Relatives recorded three obscure 45ג€™s and a session with legendary North Texas engineer Phil York. These powerful, genre-busting recordings stand up alongside the best Group Soul and Funk recordings of the 1970ג€™sג€”and give praise to the Lord like youג€™ve never heard before! Heavy Light Records is proud to bring together all of The Relativesג€™ singles and five previously unreleased tracks for their first-ever full length release, ג€œDonג€™t Let Me Fall.ג€

sample's here, shit's bananas http://heavylightrecords.com/dont-let-me-fall/
I found a link for that shit.
http://holywarbles.blogspot.com/2010/06 ... 71-76.html
The download link says "know the ledge" instead of "don't let me fall", but judging from the post it's the right album.
I may as well post my two favorite soundtracks.
Curtis Mayfield- Superfly

Jimmy Cliff- The Harder They Come

Thanks! Downloading now so I'm not sure about the 1st track but I'll let you know if it rings a bell when I listen. But I found this sample listing for "Free Your Mind" on the-breaks.com:
Politicians: (Hot Wax 1972)
* "Free Your Mind"
Nikki D - "Letting off Steam"
Professor Griff - "Pawns in the Game"

i think i downloaded that politicians album a while ago but was dissapointed because it wasn't very psych-ish, which is stupid of me. i do this a lot - find something that i think is gonna be tripped out, get dissapointed when it isn't, then revisit it far down the line with corrected expectation and feel like a dick .
