"79" - a mix of tracks released in 1979

Post by Sigma »

I posted this in M2C, but someone said I should also post it in here, so that's what I'm doing!

This is a mix of hip-hop tracks that were all released in 1979, although there may be some debate over the year of release of one or two of these songs. This is a proper mix, not just a compilation of tracks.

Don't expect pristine sound quality throughout!

Hey man, thanks so much (and to everyone else) for checking this out. I'm really pleased with the responses this mix has been getting! I don't know DJ Warlord. Can you link me to his site? Thanks man.

I've listened to this a few times now - it's really well done. You should put together some mixes for the subsequent years.

Thanks a lot man, I really appreciate it.

I dunno whether I'd do the following few years justice. With this mix, the tunes were basically handed to me on a plate, cos the track listing was "every song from 79 I either had or could get". Obviously, with 80 onwards, the number of releases increased by a lot. I got into hip-hop in 82/83 so I could probably do a good mix of tracks from the early 80s, but I'm not too sure about doing another one from a specific year.

Here's a nice mix of 1983 tunes from a guy called DJ Scientist who runs Raphistory.net: -

http://www.mixcloud.com/djscientist/rap ... ard-times/

It's only 28 minutes, but it's a good listen and it's a live set, rather than mine which was multitracked.
