Slice-Of-Spice and Lord Finesse is at it again, this time with an absolutely incredible three set of records containing no less than 25 instrumentals produced by The Funkyman during the mid-'90s. Most of them are previously unreleased, and have been updated, mixed, engineered, sequenced and mastered for a 2014 release by Eddie Sancho and Tony Dawsey, respectively. The main record is a 2xLP set pressed up on 180 gram vinyl with beautiful gatefold artwork by Mr. Krum entitled "The SP1200 Project: Re-Awakening" focusing on beats recorded around the making of Finesse's '95 classic "The Awakening". The bonus LP "The SP1200 Product: DAT Signature Sound" features an additional 9 tracks on a single LP with full artwork, while an additional 12" (which I assume purchasers of both records will get as a free item) includes newly mastered instrumentals of "Party & Bullshit (Remix)", "Suicidal Thoughts", "Jewelz" and a previously unreleased cut. No release date has been set yet, but over at Slice-Of-Spice you can listen to a 13 minutes long sampler of the main album, a 10 minute sampler of "DAT Signature Sound", a 6 minutes sampler of the EP as well as free download of one cut from each set. I listened through everything yesterday, totaling 42 minutes, and GOD DAMN is this some exciting stuff for us boom bap fanatics. I'm gonna finally see Lord Finesse on stage in August too so that makes it even more exciting. BTW, anyone who've seen Finesse recently, do you know if he still performs MC sets on stage or is he only doing DJ sets these days?
