"Bob Power is a man whose touch can be found on some of the most important recordings of the 20th and 21st centuries. The mythical sound engineer has worked with everyone from the first hip-hop band (aka Stetsasonic) to the last (aka The Roots,) landing himself as the veiled hand on more records than you can imagine. His work with the likes A Tribe Called Quest, The Jungle Brothers, Common, De La Soul and Black Sheep has cemented him as a pillar in the backpacker’s studio.What do you think?

However, it was his time mixing and arranging D’Angelo‘s Brown Sugar and Erykah Badu‘s debut single “On & On” that truly made him one of the architects of the “neo-soul” sound stamp. In his sit-down with egotrip‘s Chairman Mao for the latest installment of RBMA‘s Fireside Chat, the two discuss his lengthy legacy as the go-to engineer for some of OKP’s favorites and how he helped to shape those movements. Its hard to imagine that anyone other than J Dilla himself had a more pervasive presence on those recordings (which Power also speaks to.) so what did y'all think of the interview?
i especially dug the ancedotes of working on Tribe's early material and of course The Soulquarian's stuff

I was expecting to hear some hip hop stories but it's mainly just his reaction and experience working on a few projects and his growth as an engineer which is pretty interesting. On a side note, he looks like an old carrot top. but the original carrot top, not carrot top with all the plastic surgery. There's a few NPR Microphone Check interviews that have some great hip hop nuggets. The Juan Epstein and Combat Jack shows also have some good stuff if you can handle the extremely obnoxious hosts.
