East Coast With West Coast Flavors

I have a feeling there might be a thread like this somewhere, but I'm looking for East Coast songs or albums with an obvious West Coast influence. I'm excluding Southern G-funk type stuff here. Here's what comes to mind for me.



Sittin' On Chrome is an obvious choice.



Riders of the Storm has heavy West Coast vibes.



Probably my favorite Shyheim joint, and it has some serious West Coast sounds.



Now that I think about it there's a West Coast element to a lot of The Lost Generation.



I'm not really crazy about this song or album, but definitely WC:

always thought some tracks from it was written sounded a little west coast influenced. if i ruled the world and street dreams in the polished production both were west coast influenced im pretty sure.

WC used the same sample for west up and it has that G-funk feeling although this verison has more eastcoast drums

hard to pick one track off the album because most was produced by Sir Jinx and it sounds similar to Cubes stuff but i think this one because its slower has more of a west coast vibe



and of course this from the rappers to g raps performance



somewhere between jiggy and westcoast. i generally feel a lot of jiggy stuff under puffy was derived from g-funk. i think there are tracks from pieces of a man that also have a certain westcoast vibe.

Jamal is a good call. Since Strictly BusinessErick Sermon has been using a lot of samples from groups usually associated with West Coast/G-Funk sound


it has the boom bap but i don't know the laid backness reminds me more of some LA shit. similar to some Boogiemonsters stuff

Da Youngsta's definitely have some West Coast flavors, though I've never really noticed it before. Lost Boyz too.

Dana Dane's Rollin' Wit Dana Dane (1995) was mostly produced by the West Coast legend (and my favorite producer ) DJ Battlecat... he also produced Blak Czer's Tales From Da Blak Side (1994)... btw, Blak Czer is from Pittsburgh, PA (some ppl consider Pittsburgh to be midwest, tho, but idk).

Was listening to Slaughtahouse recently and I remembered how Ace parodied the hardcore trend of MCs during the early 90's in the first half of the song with the same name. The accents, trademark hand-clap snare and Roger Troutman Funk sampling is all there.

I also like Erick Sermon's "The Ill Shit" feat. Kam and Ice Cube as a East Coast with West Coast flavor cut. A lot of his production felt West Coast Funk influenced during the early 90's to me.
