This might not be for everyone, as it's kinda smooth with honey sweet strings etc, but has some great grooves and an incredible drum sound..

includes Mulatu Astatke's "yegelle tezeta''
sampled in Nas Damien Marley's "As We Enter"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UVAqdHXb1Ic

Mad grooves from the Ethiopian scene of the 70s ג€“ featuring work by the enigmatic Mulatu, plus some of the other extra-cool artists on that country's groundbreaking soul and funk scene!

Mulatu plays Fender Rhodes and organ on his tracks ג€“ grooving with a slow, snakey approach that's almost a bit like the work of Sun Ra, but which also has distinct African touches. The sound here is quite different than the Nigerian funky work of the 70s ג€“ much more laidback and open-ended, with less American influences, and a really unique approach!

DJ Akalepse - Props Vol.1

http://truthandsoulrecords.com/podcast/PROPSVOLONE.mp3

Rich Medina and DJ Akalepse (the kings of I never heard ANYONE play this record out!) are taking their legendary Little Ricky's Rib Shack party from APT and bringing it to Le Poisson Rouge in 2010. Expect a party that is as much what is this song?, as it is I love this song, a party that is simultaneously classic, and brand new. Medina and Akalepse are staples of the New York DJ community known worldwide for consistently bringing you a full spectrum of soul music. DJ Akalepse is also running things for the neo-classic Truth & Soul Records label. Come find out for yourself why these guys have had one of the most highly consistent and successful weeknight parties New York City has ever seen, with this funky and highly soulful introductory mix called Props Vol.1...

Ayo Kell, I'm sorry man, I used to get on FB through my email notifications but apparently they've changed shit up. I'll check it out tomorrow and hit you back.

Heads may wanna keep an eye out for this Stones Throw/Now Again release:
http://www.stonesthrow.com/store/album/ ... hell-below

I gotta say though, why would they not make an original type cover for a $50 vinyl set that includes 4 groups instead of just recycling the East Of tHe Undergrounds cover? weak.

they reproduce it ebcause they know they can sell a certain amount of it and because they enjoy brining dope music to people who either haven't heard of those bands or don't have the loot to spend on the original lps
