How to watch Hulu/Comedy Central if you live in Canada

Post by Balzac »

Firefox FTW!

American posters you have no idea how annoying this shit can be.
How To: Watch Comedy Central Videos From Canada

The relationship between Comedy Central and Canadaג€™s Comedy Network is the worst example of what can happen when rights owners assert copyright on the internet, based on national borders. If you are not aware ג€“ like Hulu, TV.com and others ג€“ Comedy Central videos will not play in Canada, but itג€™s worse. ComedyCentral.com ג€“ the entire domain ג€“ is unavailable to Canadian IPs! When you try visit it, you are redirected to comedynetwork.ca.

I found a workaround to this buried in a comment thread on reddit. Firefox users only:

For Canadian viewers, if you are using firefox, install the following addon:
http://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/967 then:
1) In Firefox, Go to tools->modify headers
2) From the drop down box on the left select add
3) Then enter: ג€œX-Forwarded-Forג€ in the first input box without the quotation marks
4) Enter: ג€œ12.13.14.15″ in the second input box without the quotation marks
5) Leave the last input box empty, and save the filter, and enable it

6) Click the ג€˜Configurationג€™ tab on the right then proceed to check the ג€˜always onג€™ button.
Close the Modify Headers box and it should work.

I bet it works in other countries but haven't been able to try it. If you live elsewhere give it a go and post in here if it works.

*edit*. FML, hulu won't work. But at least comedy central does; as well as some other previously blocked ones.

I didn't pay for it nor have I ever had any issues with it. The only drawback is that services like Hulu load a bit slower.
