Metro 2033

Post by thelastbaron »

New FPS coming out soon that might not be on your radar. Wasn't on mine until I read a preview in Game Informer last month. I haven't played a good FPS in a while so I will probably check it out. I love the attention to detail and emphasis on immersion evident in these gameplay clips. Really cool setting too (dystopian Russia, post WW2). Based on a book:

Stalker: Call of Pripyat is fuckin AMAZING! It's almost certainly gonna be my GOTY. As soon as it was released, I did virtually nothing else except go to work, sleep, and play Stalker for about a week.

I'd give it a 6 or 7/10. The shooting part of the game (which is a major part) just doesn't feel quite right to me. Graphically it's really nice. It only has around 8 hours of gameplay though and it's single player only, so IMO it's a better rent than a buy.

Yeah the shooting isn't the best. But then again, considering you're using a bunch of shitty makeshift weapons, I guess it makes sense that they're fairly weak and inaccurate. The human AI seems really good, but fighting demons might be a bit too frantic. I like how this is one of the few survival-horror games which really makes you count your bullets.

What I really love about the game is the atmosphere. Especially the towns where there's so many details and so much going on. I'm also glad that the developers allow, and even suggest, that you play with the original Russian dialogue with English subtitles.

I'd give it a solid 8/10. I didn't buy the game and probably wouldn't for $50/60 given its relatively short length and linearity, but anyone who is a fan of atmospheric or horror-themed games should check it out. I'm sure it will be one of my favorite games this year.
