It depends on a number of things:
- Do u truly value Blueray?
- Do u use a lot of social media or plan on playing heavy Multiplayer games?
- Are some of your favorite games made by Sony developers (Unchartered, God Of War) or by Microsoft (Halo, Gears Of War)?
- Is paying in order to play online going to be a problem?
Answer these questions and I can give u a direct answer.

My personal preference leans toward the Xbox 360:
I prefer the exclusive titles to that of the PS3.
[Most] multiplatform titles are slightly better on the 360 (and the ones that aren't are usually negligible but this is usually not the case for the ones that look significantly worse on the PS3).
My main gripe with the PS3 is the inferior user experience. Some games on PS3 require a lengthy install the first time you play that game. This can cause frustration when all you want to do is play that new title you just brought home, not sit staring at a loading screen for 45 minutes. Also, when downloading and applying updates for games, the 360 > PS3. This also applies to download only games. On the 360 you just download and play. The PS3 for some reason requires the extra step of installing between d/l and playing the game. System firmware updates also take forever where the 360's usually take a couple of minutes at most.
Some advantages of the PS3:
Bluray
Some key exclusives
Some people prefer the dual shock controller
[IMO] better media streaming capability
Can play classic PS1 games
Online play is not as good but free (good for people who don't play online on a regular basis therefore don't want to pay for the service but would still like the option of hopping online with the right game).
Some newer games don't fit on one DVD (requiring multiple discs for the 360 version) but will fit on a single Bluray
Although I prefer the 360 I don't think you can really go wrong with either.

I don't think newer PS3's are backwards-compatible, definitely not for every PS1 or PS2 title. That was true for the first generation.
I think it's a matter of whether you're going to use the thing to play more video games, or watch more movies/streamed content. If it's the former, XBox 360. The latter would be PS3.

Buy a PS3 if.......
You want a Blu-Ray player
The PS3's exclusives are the games you really want to play
You'll be playing online with friends and they all have PS3s
Free online is more important to you than the features of the online system
Else buy a 360.
I wouldn't even say that the PS3 is better for streaming stuff any more. Cinavia DRM, the slower wireless, and MS adding a whole bunch of apps/services to the 360 in the last few months have put the PS3 behind in that respect IMO.

2. No
3. Either or. GoW is a fav. If EA's Tiger Woods is on both then this may be narrowed down.
4. Yes. I don't want to pay extra and again, online play is not huge for me.
Starting to think PS3 simply because I know more people who have one and I like its usage as a media player.

I copped a PS3 when it first came out and didn't play as much as I thought so I gave it to one of my daughters. In the past couple of years, I just don't have a ton of time to play, but I'm starting to get some now that my kids are older. Plus I think the commercials have had me stearing toward an XBox. However, most of my friends have PS3s so that might happen.Philaflava wrote:holy shit i thought this thread was bumped from 4 years ago
people say xbox, but you know what? fuck the graphics. its not that important. its a video game, not a reality simulation machine. god of wars, metal gears, ps 1 classics, ncaa football (the latest of which is actually pretty fucking tight), the assassins creeds, skyrim, fallout 3....thats a fuck load of gaming right there.
i will also recommend valkyria chronicles (havent played pt 2 but its probably sweet) for your tactical war game
just my two cents

I would say based on the posts above you should go with the PS3. The graphics really aren't that much different, its just that some people care about having the best possible of what is available. The games that are arguably slightly lesser on the PS3 still look fucking fantastic and if that is the only system you own, it will make zero difference to you anyway.
Yes, Tiger woods is a cross-platform title.
