PS n00b needs help

So after years of being out of the video game console game, I'm finally getting suckered into copping a PS3. One thing I don't understand is HD size. What difference does it make? Do people not play games off the DVDs anymore? Do you have to install the game on a hard drive first before playing it?

Also, the store is offering either God of War 3 or Assassins Creed 2, which is bettar.

The bigger the HD size the more content you can store on there, not just games. All my friends have PS3's and also portable external HD's to keep loads of movies they've downloaded off the net. Downloadable game content also eats away HD space. Installing games onto the HD usually minimizes any load problems you might get from a scratched game disc and so on. Even if it's just games you're keeping on your HD, it eats up gigs so the bigger the HD the better.

Not played the latest GoW3 game but it's meant to be ridiculously dope, I can vouch for AC2 though, one of the best games of 2009.

PS3? No mate. I only use it for exclusives, so it's not really worth it as it causes problems with getting on PSN (unless that's changed in recent weeks - I haven't been following the PS3 modding scene).

^ Nah, pretty much for the same reasons. I'm already banned on XBLA and I don't want the same to happen on PSN.

Ended up getting the 320GB with Red Dead, GTA 4 and NBA 2k11. Instead of Assassins Creed/God of War they threw in that Move shit with the equipment for free.

so pretty much my social life/career will be dead for the next 3 months
