firewalls and security things

my free trial of McAfee just ran out so i got that AVG free but im unsure if it has a firewall and how secure my computer actually is with it. any suggestions on a better one? and does windows have its own firewall and if yes how do i check to see if its running? thanks.

AVG doesn't come with a firewall. XP has one built into it, although it only does half the job cos it only checks incoming traffic and not outgoing.

Once you have a proper firewall installed, you should disable the XP one if it's activated. Instructions can be found here: -

thanks. i really thought i was going to fuck up my computer with some virus.
