Good question. Both were terrific.

I need to think on this one.

I think Mr. Show has much better replay value. A lot of the humor is more clever and absurd, and it lends itself better to repeat viewings.

People can't front on Chapelle Show, season two had so many huge laughs, it all just got too played out. Come on, you can't even front about how hard you laughed the first time you saw Prince or Rick James, that is truly funny shit. It's just that after they show it over and over and every dumbass on the street is quoting it it gets annoying.

Another point is that Mr. Show had many more bombs than Chapelle Show. Every sketch show has bombs, even the beloved cult stuff like Monty Python, UCB, etc. had a number of completely weak skits/jokes. Mr. Show is no different.

And Chapelle show had some brilliant/surreal/absurd stuff too. I always loved the scene in the courtroom, where he pissed on the white female lawyer and talked about editing and then they cut back to her and she looked down and wasn't wet. That's off the wall comedy that has nothing to do with issues or parody or anything. If Monty Python did that it would be considered brilliant.

But I own the Mr. Show dvds and I'll never own the Chapelle ones, so my vote goes to Mr. Show. Chapelle's Show sure was great the first time around though.

I still lean toward Mr Show myself, but watching my Chapelle Show DVD's I think it's a lot closer than people might think.
I do agree that mr Show is much more thought out, and the twists in it are really unpredictable. A lot of Chapelle stuff is imrpov, surprisingly.
Also though, Mr Show has the occasionally incredibly shitty sketch, I don't think there's a TERRIBLE chapelle sketch.

my opinion is the exact opposite

but I am no way hating on Chappelle's Show, it's just Mr. Show is probably my favorite thing on Earth.

i have very fond memories of mr. show. i loved how it would transition seemlessly from skit to skit, they did that in some very clever ways.

mr. show is my choice, and probably my favorite skit show ever.

No way, that's like saying that we "hate" on 36 chambers just because we think illmatic is better.

I understand that, I was just hoping for a comment that would've made that post relevant or interesting in some way.

I like em both..but I have just about everything Dave does.. I've bought the first and second seasons fo Mr.Show.. and want the others but I copped the Dave stuff the weeks they dropped..

Both great sketch comedy... but no one is as funny as Dave when he's on point.. Cross is right there too.. but Dave gets the win in my book...

I miss the chappelle show. It had so much more potential.. Imagine a Chappelle episode after the Michael Richards incedent ?

Not a real Mr. Show fan... also never understood UCB love.

Chappelle show by miles and miles... although I probably like David Cross' stand-up more than Chappelle's.
