Finally a movie that has potential to put good use of all that shaky cam / found footage schtick with some style other than the REC films.

Liking the moon setting.

^Missed this at first. Looks good, brilliant concept for the gimmick.

Just saw Cold Prey 3 / Fritt Vilt 3. It's about as mediocre as the early reviews indicated. It lacks the rounded characters, acting, claustrophobia and suspense of the first two. There are some cool scenes, it's obviously an expensive movie and I think fans should check it out but that's it. And no, it has nothing to do with the first two aside from a lame intro, there's no snow or hotel and Fjellmannen looks like a fisherman. It reminded me of the Norwegian throwback slasher Manhunt, which was much better so give that a look instead.
Whether to Jason of Philaflava or John Podesta, I will speak my fucking perspective openly

Gutted. I was really looking forward to this movie a lot and was hoping for that all important origin story to be the main plot. Still going to check it out. Is it really self aware, unfunny jokes and gore now?

Lots of criticism will make it sounds as if it's bad but had it been released under a different name it would be received better, it's just mediocre but definitely not worse than that.

It's not that self-aware there's some in-jokes but it doesn't distract. Not a whole lot of humor, some teen-jokes but only when it's appropriate. Gore? It's pretty mild actually, just like the first two - there's a "torture-porn"-ish scene that had me worried but it's not that kinda flick thankfully.

Any British reccomendations u would reccomend Spartan? I recently saw Creep and thought it was pretty good especially how the killer looked like a crawler in the Descent and was inspired by an American werewolf in London.

what horror movie endings really shocked u? Slaughter high, sleepaway camp, and Orphan endings were shocking imo.

The Descent 2 is worth watching, not a patch on the original though.

If you liked Creep then you really ought to check out Black Death which has been mentioned a few time here. It's also directed by Christopher Smith a director who's really improved over the years. Great to see the return of quality folk-horror.

Mum & Dad - a really nasty and downbeat British horror that's obviously inspired on the real life crimes of Fred & Rosemary West.

There's a few good killer kiddie flicks from the UK, among them is Eden Lake and last year's film "F".

A Serbian Film, Martyrs and Inside owns this question. If you can sit through those endings you've survived the worst.

Shouts to The Beyond, Rosemary's Baby, A Tale of Two Sisters, Vinyan, Spoorloos and Kairo.

Ti West's "The Innkeepers" will be screening on March 12th at SXSW, hopefully HOTD wasn't a fluke(though I enjoyed "The Roost" as well).

I thought this was a bit crap, aside from the first half hour which was very enjoyable. Went to the internet and first thing I see on fangoria is that theyre doing a sequel to Hoopers weak remake. Strange.

Now this is worth looking forward to. The Frontiere(s) director is coming back with this.

Went to a horror convetion last weekend, one table had some interesting movies for sale. Among them: "Forgive Me For Raping You", "I Told You Not To Call The Cops" and "Zombiechrist."

The card they gave me for Zombiechrist below...*NSFW*

I think both Zombiechrist and Forgive Me For Raping You are directed by the same guy, Bill Zebub. Something of a darling amongst the indie horror and black metal heads. He also directed Jesus Christ: Serial Rapist that blockhead was sporting as his sig a while ago. I've only seen a few clips or trailers here and there and the guy's movies really don't have me interested at all.

More info here http://www.billzebub.com/666/Home/tabid/36/Default.aspx

I first heard about the guy from Mr Parka's reviews, who bigs up a lot of shit but has a ton of knowledge.

On an unrelated note, the new poster art for Ti West's The Innkeepers looking fucking dope.

No trailer i know of yet, but Fangoria managed to get a review up. I don't really find their reviews that helpful to be honest, but here it is anyway.

http://fangoria.com/index.php?option=co ... Itemid=181
It's a bad analogyג€”because it often conjures up thoughts of junk food and Doritosג€”but sometimes horror simply needs comfort food. Not in the sense of a guilty pleasure, but a wonderfully prepared bit of something old-fashioned; hence, THE INNKEEPERS.

Ti West's highly anticipated new film (premiering at Austin's SXSW) sees a terrific duo in Claire (Sara Paxton) and Luke (Pat Healy), the last two employees of the Yankee Pedlar Innג€”employees who want to investigate its haunted legends as well.

What West has gotten so right isn't something groundbreaking, but completely essential. Claire and Luke are complete characters that really capture the dynamic of the everyday hangout at your unexciting job. Much of THE INNKEEPERS is hilarious, and often quotably so, stemming from its two great leads.

It's funny watching THE INNKEEPERS after seeing and commending INSIDIOUS for its lack of false scares, but so much of THE INNKEEPERS is about what people and their minds will do as a result of boredom and sarcasm, like half-assedly pop into ghost hunting.

But as in West's HOUSE OF THE DEVIL, there's a very clear point where THE INNKEEPERS transitions from something incredibly fun and endearing (the misdirection scares don't ever feel cheap, but appropriate), with some spooky scenes in the mix, to a terrifying assault where the stakes suddenly are much higher than anyone thought. And because Paxton and Healy are truly delightful as the heart of the movie, the fear is real.

West's direction is elegant, floating the camera through the hotel as an entity itself and crafting (along with wonderful work from Jeff Grace and Graham Reznick on score and sound as usual) some really solid tension out of what's essentially a classical spook story. Even the ghost's legend isn't particularly spectacular, but something you'd expect to hear in an inn that isn't particularly spectacular itself. However, a breathtaking backstory isn't necessary when there's a palpable atmosphere and threat.

There's a late-stage scare that feels slightly out of step with THE INNKEEPERS' overall style, but otherwise the film is a wonderful (and really, really fun) picture that continues to confirm not only West's talent but the general quality of Glass Eye Pix and their eye for damn good work.

Genre-enthusiasts close by should consider hitting up Copenhagen Festival next month. Theyre showing Hobo With A Shotgun, Dream Home, Enter the Void, Cold Fish, Confessions, We Are What We Are, Kidnapped, A Serbian Film (considering it just to see it with an audience) + more.

Best part: Meet N Greet with Christina "one eye" Lindhberg :gyeah:

Zulawski will also be making a lecture of some sort. That should be crazy.

I've watched some vids of Lindberg at these types of filmfests and she looks positively uncomfortable. I guess it's probably her knowing all those fat sweaty dudes with poor personal hygiene used to crack one off to her back in the day.

Doubt A Serbian Film would be screened anywhere without some obvious cuts but the rest of that list sounds good particularly Kidnapped, dope trailer.

I post on the same forum as the guys who programmed this thing. It's gonna be uncut. Danes are pretty hard to offend haha. There was recently controversy about an art-exhibit which showed manga child-porn, some people were protesting but it was allowed to stay open.

I've seen pics of her at these kinda happening too and she looks very jaded, but she also said in some interview that she never smiles. But yeah, it has to be a bit awkward for her.

Some cool high brow world cinema right here.

The Night of the Chupacabras (Brazil)

<object width="640" height="390"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/3ccKWWMQM0I?fs ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/3ccKWWMQM0I?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="390"></embed></object>

Really hope that wasn't all the best stuff in that trailer.

Damned By Dawn (Aus)

It's been out for a while, heard great things about it and the obvious homage to Raimi's Evil Dead movies.

let the right one in is the original...and i saw it first...and it was way better, and not just b/c it was the original

the boy in the american one is a faggot with no chops. the girl is my lil homey, fuckin love her from her movies including hit girl in kickass, but the cgi when she morphed into the vamp was RIDICULOUS, it just wasn't as beautiful as the original one either, the lighting was weird

let me in great example of a remake with some soul. both child actors were great. reason is right about the cgi though.
hell high not seen and will not see because of the dvds being defective.
dark night of the scarecrow - awesome film, don't let the fact that this was a TV movie fool you. very creepy movie.
hobb's end - never heard of it.
feast - not a big fan of horror comedies but this was decent. treach was in this.
i spit on your grave waiting for my US disc of the remake to arrive (uk dvd is cut). the original is worth watching just for the revisionist feminism that's been written about this in the last thirty years.
gaze of the depraved - never heard of it.
trick or treat - you're talking about the 80's horror metal flick with Ozzy right and not the anthology one called trick r treat? didn't like this back in the day, but I'll probably change my mind if i caught this again now that my standards are much lower. eg hated demons 1&2 back in the day and now I really dig them.

Still no decent DVD of this 80's southern slasher.

Yeah, that list is pretty suspect. Despite the 00's being an improved decade, there was a substantial amount of utter shite, some of those movies made it on there.

Don't know anything about this guy but he has a grip of short horror films up on Youtube. Still going through em but they're really slick and enjoyable so far. He should be making feature lengths in Hollywood.
