Andre 3000 won't be the only person depicting a music legend this year on the big screen as a rep Lenny Kravitz has confirmed that Kravitz will be playing Marvin Gaye in an upcoming biopic. This biopic will not be like past Marvin Gaye biopic attempts due to this one securing the music rights. The film will focus on Gaye's time in Europe while trying to jumpstart his career alongside the British promoter Freddy Cousaert. Expect this project to start filimg next year.

What is the deal with the music rights to a Marvin Gaye biopic? It seems like that shit has been in limbo forever and a day. Who's on the music rights end is holding shit up and why?

Im pretty sure when Jesse L. Martin left Law & Order they were saying he left partially to pursue making a Gaye biopic (wouldve been fantastic casting btw.)

Also, unless its a straight to TV movie, who wants to see a biopic about Gaye's time in Europe regardless of who's playing him?
