Pick your favorite PSH leading role
I think I got most of the roles he had the most screen time with, at least the most notable ones. I'll do a supporting role poll next.
Re: Pick your favorite PSH leading role
synecdoche is one of my favorite movies. went with that but devil and the master were close
Re: Pick your favorite PSH leading role
have not seen a lot of these but vote goes to the master because wow holy shit what a performance for such a difficult role and had great chemistry with the other actors
Re: Pick your favorite PSH leading role
Yes, tough call between Synecdoche and Devil. The Master was something else but I need to see it once more to fully digest both film and performance
Re: Pick your favorite PSH leading role
Devil is sooo good. Went with that. The Master a close second. Have yet to watch a few of the others...

a bit aside, but really looking forward to seeing him in A Most Wanted Man. He seems so money to play a LeCarre character.

Re: Pick your favorite PSH leading role
This is really difficult. He was so good in Capote, Before the Devil..., and Synecdoche. I guess I have to go with Capote, but it could be any of these on a given day. Kind of surprised at how The Master is ahead as Joaquin Phoenix basically blew PSH off the screen, and PSH was pretty damn good.

synecdoche definitely my fave out of these. kinda surprised at the love it's getting in this thread. sort of assumed/remembered it being a movie that ppl generally disliked on this board

@jamrage
you probably know this more than anybody else on here but joaquin was perfect in so many ways its really beyond apt description
but the yang cannot be complete without the yin and the black area (yin) really makes the yin yang what it is as a symbol in my opinion (as strange as that opinion may be

before the devil knows your dead was excruciating to watch, intentionally, which made me like it

voted for Capote based on the quality of the performance rather than the movie.
I didn't see the master yet.

Haven't seen Pirate Radio, but DEVIL is the only one of these other movies that I thought was even above average. Not saying he was personally bad in 'em, but his track record of movies as a leading man kinda fucking sucks, despite him mostly doing good work in them.
After the eulogizing hoo-ha I think he'll eventually be remembered for what he was: firmly and comfortably in the conversation for best character actor of his generation. Nothing wrong with that.

I thought I was gonna be the only one that picked Love Liza but I see a couple more have trickled in. I honestly need to re-watch a bunch of these, my opinion could be swayed because it's been a while on a lot of them. I realized I don't have a ton of his movies in my collection because he isn't in a lot of movies that have been released on blu-ray.
Love Liza is the one that always sticks with me though. That role, that character. I can't imagine anyone else coming close to the way he played that role from all sides. It's hard watch, but god damn he's incredible.
