it's not the greatest thing ever but it is very good entertainment, sucks you in pretty hard if you let it.

lost works best when you can watch a couple at a time imo, watching it 'live' is frustrating. it's easier to keep track of numerous minor details when you absorb them all continuously in close succession as opposed to in tiny installments over a course of several months

if you start with season 1 now and don't burn through it too fast, by the time you get to 6 it should be out on dvd already. you wont skip a beat

id say just the opposite, ive really enjoyed watching it live, week by week having to think the ep thru afterwords, listening to the podcasts about it, i think watching it back to back is cheating yourself

As content that by design isn't needed to understand and follow the plot, the studio created stuff is basically limited to:

*unnecessary details and back story (great if you're a huge fan, but pointless to the casual fan or fan who is catching up)

*red herrings (no shortage of those in the actual show)

*clues about answers that won't be provided on the show until later (if you're watching after the fact and back-to-back who gives a shit, as these teasers don't serve any purpose when you're watching at your own pace)

Likewise, the fan generated stuff is 99% crazy theorizing that's irrelevant to casual viewers or people watching straight through.

i would def give them credit for establishing one of the most expansive and successfully realized 'universes' since the star wars franchise.

Shit is SO on point. For people who have spent five seasons going through weekly 100+ page threads of theorizing, pored over screencaps, read countless wikipedia pages on obscure 17th century philosophers and the like, I totally get it too. It's not me, but I get it.

i watched half of the series as they aired and half of the series i caught up on via dvd. i definitely prefer the later by a huge margin.. it's so much more satisfying to be able to watch 2-3 episodes in a row than having to wait every week (or months in the case of some seasons)
