No fucking way. I don't need Dex teaching Rita's kids to kill or have the dark passenger be some supernatural essence.

The acting on this show, as always, is just fucking horrendous again. The scene where Aster or however the fuck you spell it was crying was so fuckin painful to watch. I understand she's a kid, but holy shit was it bad.

They both have their positives as well as drawbacks.

The Dark Passenger thing, when subtle, is way better than Harry always being around. Wait until Rita starts showing back up...

And in the newest book he pretty much gives up on mentoring the kids.

Doakes still being around and Laguarta being dead is 100 times better than what went down on the show.

Disagree. I thought the daughter was a stone faced bad actor at first too, but then someone broke it down for me that she's at that tween stage where she looks physically awkward and disconnected but is emotionally completely irrational. She's doing a great job.

I thought the episode sucked. The few things I liked about the first episode weren't even mentioned or were just blown off. The tension in the FBI interrogation was gone in 45 seconds, Harry is ten times more annoying than Rita was and suddenly changed his tune about Dexter's family for no reason and serves no purpose, the Batista-LaGuardia bank account c-story was just to fill space and is nowhere near as compelling as Dexter being their witness, everything with Quinn just flatout sucks, I'm hoping the cult storyline is a red herring blowoff ("santa muerte?" SAINT DEATH? SERIOUSLY?), the guy Dexter's looking to murk is unengaging as hell, and the whole point of this episode drawing parallels between astor and cody and dex and deb was treated like an afterthought. Lame.

WHAT I DID LIKE were Dexter's interactions with the kids. Showing Harrison the blood inside the truck was great, and his "how dare you" to Astor's blob comment was funny. Since the show's lost all capacity for dramatic tension, I'm all for it becoming a good version of 'According to Jim' only with killing.

It seems like the writers aren't even speaking to each other at this point as this episode seemed to have so little to do with the last one. I'm predicting the second half of this season is going to be great, but getting there will be an absolute chore.

This. But the whole "dark passenger being an ancient spirit" bullshit was fucking ridiculous and ruined the whole book series for me.

Agreed but Quinn as the crooked white Doakes (who is interested in Dexter's sister Deb) is a pretty sorry replacement. I think I'd rather just see the original character if they're inevitably gonna go that route anyway.

You gotta be kidding. Doakes saying the word "Morgan" is better than anything that has happened during this shitty excuse for a season.

he was porn level acting bad. his acting reminded me of keenan thompson doing a whoopie goldberg impersonation on SNL.

as for this season, ive only watched the first two episodes, they didnt do much for me. I might be out on dexter.

Yeah, Dexter is no where near as good as when it started out but i'm going to keep watching it. I still get a fair amount of entertainment out of it so as long as that continues, i'll stick around.

Really? 'cause literally everybody I've talked to mentions how they think that the whole Angel / Maria relationship is the most filler nothing of a sub-plot and that absolutely no redeemable content has stemmed from it thus far.

Yeah, the women in this show are all around horrendous and kinda always have been. And I don't know what the deal with that is exactly.

I actually liked the last two episodes and that they're actually following through on new ideas. Anyone who abandoned Dex after the premiere might want to revisit where they're going now.

As for Batista/La Guarda, I LOVED the idea that Dexter was the witness as their wedding as the alibi so they couldn't tell anyone, but now everybody knows they're married and that subplot seems to have been dropped.

Sunday became a little light since Mad Men finished so I'm still watching this. Every week I'm waiting for it to get better than I realized I've been waiting for a few seasons now.

Still watching. I thought the season actually started stronger than where it is right now. Part of the problem with Dexter is people really want it to be a good show, and it just isn't. If you keep your expectations lower it has always been enjoyable enough.

Last episode was great. Seems like the writers are actually talking to each other now.

For the most part this season has been better / more "believable" than some of the other recent ones but that whole Jordan Chase on stage scene with Dexter talking in front of the crowd was so fake and forced it was cringe worthy. That said, the writers do keep upping the ante.

I can see that. I would have preferred he did it out of nowhere and then met with him after. I can suspend my disbelief if it means a great curveball.
