a bumbling nearly inept avenger who's actually kind of a pussy, but not to a comical mocking extent, is a pretty neat twist on the revenge formula. the scene where he tries to patch himself up in a typical action badass way but can't bring himself to stitch the wound so he just gives up and goes to the hospital is key to what the movie is going for. the theme of the cyclical violence and how the dude's fumbling only serves to make things worse was handled pretty well too, with real resonance as opposed to just creating opportunities to show more people die. and the execution is really solid, a lot of subtle touches that don't really stand out immediately but add a lot.

it's not the kind of thing that blows your mind as you're watching it, but many months after seeing it the movie is still strongly impressed into my memory while a bunch of others i saw this year are already nearly forgotten.
Agree with everything Drizz said and I'll add...

There's something to be said about a fun movie that's made for serious-minded adults. Which is rare these days. It seems every movie that could be considered "fun" is actually for teenagers or some silly riff on nostalgia like The Expendables Series.

This movie moved, had twists and turns, several moments of humor, genuine surprises and it never felt like it was reaching down to appeal to kids. Like I said, rare. I don't think it's an important movie, but I do think it was perfectly executed for what it aspired to be. And in that regard, I think it was one of the year's best.

I sympathize with the sentiment but it's not true. This was a great year for genrefilms for an adult audience. Maybe you just don't know where to look.

My biggest problem with it was that I didn't think the fumbling theme was uniform. At the beginning of the movie he seems kind of a badass to me. He's got this big ass beard, he's sneaking into people's houses to bathe, he seems like the classic brooding loner archetype. He then finds out this guy is getting out of prison, follows him, sneaks into a place where all this guys friends are, and then proceeds to fairly expertly murder him in the bathroom. To me the bumbling and fumbling begins at the point when he can't start his car and takes the limo. He cuts off his beard and looks like an accountant, makes more mistakes, and by the end of the movie I'm wondering how he managed to kill the guy in such gully fashion in the first place. It's almost like he regresses during the course off the film which really makes no sense to me.

That's what really took me out of it and made it an average film. Just my opinion obviously.

Some of these are really great. It probably makes for too many threads. Maybe they can be strictly Curb threads.

Would you enjoy CBS primetime comedies more if they were in 3D?

What about CW teen vampire shows?

Thanks everyone for the input, I think we have a pretty good handle on all the tv/movie polls.
Still need nominations for the most annoying tv character poll though

Annoying TV Character: Pete from The League.
I think it's a stretch, but some people seemed to loath Will from Hannibal.

Well, they're both based on the same book, so kind of. The TV series isn't very similar to the film though, aside from where it's set and the fact it's about the Camorra. But if you liked the film, I think you'll like the TV series.

Quite a few torrents about for it, but make sure you get the one with hardcoded English subs. I tried loads where looked like they'd been translated with Google Translate.

As dire as that list is, I really do want to see Peter Strickland's supposed tribute to 70s erotica The Duke of Burgundy.
