They're for kids/teenagers, that's why they're similar.

Have you read it? Is it any better than those twilight or harry potter books? Or are they all atrociously written?

The Harry Potter books are actually extremely well-written.

No, I've never read any of those, but they're all found in the young adult sections in stores, so they're just not geared toward me.

I read all three books in three days over Christmas vacation. They are decent the love triangle is gay but doesn't play that big of a part. Mostly it's just a lot of ultra violence. They are written for teens so you cna burn through them and honestly they are pretty damn good storytelling, now the movies are goign to suffer from not being R rated...

read the first one. waiting for the other two to come out on paperback. like trademark said, shit is good storytelling.

if you want a good story about survival, politics, and fighting, and dont mind some teen angst thrown in there, read it.

Nope, he just holds a special place in my heart because Jurassic Park was the first adult novel I read.

Seriously, J.K. Rowling is an extremely gifted novelist. This is the popular consensus among critics, other writers, etc.

I'd never heard of the Hunger Games until the marketing campaign started.
Obviously I'm out of touch with today's youth, but is this shit really major?

They are estimating an opening weekend of $135-140 million?
Holy shit.

I would just like to add... I've read a ton of books in my life. Some great, some ok and some awful. This is the only series that has kept me wanting to read more and more. It was like crack or discovering a dope series and running through a season in a weekend.

Btw, saw the movie tonight, really good. I don't know how you could have filmed it any better. They left some stuff out, but how could you not? Only think they needed to show more was Haymitchs transition from a drunk idiot into the teams patriarch.

thought it was decent, should have been much better.
all the 'girl on fire' shit played really corny
the mayor of d12's daughter is the tom bombadil of this all
it was pretty significant in the book that she was the one who gave katpiss the mockingjay pin
could nit pick more but there's no real reason to
i'll watch it again in theaters

I thought the movie was really really poorly made.

Read the books in a weekend, like Alpha. Pretty cool, tho also very gay at times. I'm surprised the movie got such great reviews. Badly directed, poor acting, bad effects etc.

as mentioned above I thought both of the 'girl on fire' instances played pretty awful, primarily because of the effects. the only really instance of bad acting i can recall was katniss volunteering to take prims place in the games. thought that that was pretty cringe worthy ever since it was in the trailers. woody/kravitz just weren't right for their roles, which i would chalk up more to bad casting than bad acting (hate to diss woody, but 'tis true)

I agree, some of the scenes that were dope in the book just looked gay. Went with a few friends that hadn't read it and i'm pretty sure they hated the scene where she was getting interviewed. they kinda fucked up the katniss/peeta angle.

Yeah, I thought Peeta was badly cast.

The acting was generally laughable, I thought, but what's-her-name did a pretty decent job, even though it seemed like she hated the role.

The audience was laughing at the kid's deaths in the theater, which I found to be a pretty good barometer of how off the mark the direction was.
