They're for kids/teenagers, that's why they're similar.Tweak Da Leak wrote:Anybody read this book? How come it reads like a Hardy Boys mystery?

Have you read it? Is it any better than those twilight or harry potter books? Or are they all atrociously written?Dan wrote:They're for kids/teenagers, that's why they're similar.Tweak Da Leak wrote:Anybody read this book? How come it reads like a Hardy Boys mystery?

No, I've never read any of those, but they're all found in the young adult sections in stores, so they're just not geared toward me.Tweak Da Leak wrote:Have you read it? I read all three books in three days over Christmas vacation. They are decent the love triangle is gay but doesn't play that big of a part. Mostly it's just a lot of ultra violence. They are written for teens so you cna burn through them and honestly they are pretty damn good storytelling, now the movies are goign to suffer from not being R rated...

read the first one. waiting for the other two to come out on paperback. like trademark said, shit is good storytelling.
if you want a good story about survival, politics, and fighting, and dont mind some teen angst thrown in there, read it.
seriously though, i read the first 4 potters and they are pretty good for what they are. i stopped reading the 5th really early on because it lost its appeal. oh well. one of the few books ive read that i didnt first buy. glad i didnt.

You must think Michael Creighton is a literary god.
Nope, he just holds a special place in my heart because Jurassic Park was the first adult novel I read.
Seriously, J.K. Rowling is an extremely gifted novelist. This is the popular consensus among critics, other writers, etc.

I'd never heard of the Hunger Games until the marketing campaign started.
Obviously I'm out of touch with today's youth, but is this shit really major?

They are estimating an opening weekend of $135-140 million?
Holy shit.

thought it was decent, should have been much better.
all the 'girl on fire' shit played really corny
the mayor of d12's daughter is the tom bombadil of this all
it was pretty significant in the book that she was the one who gave katpiss the mockingjay pin
could nit pick more but there's no real reason to
i'll watch it again in theaters
and in the mean time
throw up my 11

as mentioned above I thought both of the 'girl on fire' instances played pretty awful, primarily because of the effects. the only really instance of bad acting i can recall was katniss volunteering to take prims place in the games. thought that that was pretty cringe worthy ever since it was in the trailers. woody/kravitz just weren't right for their roles, which i would chalk up more to bad casting than bad acting (hate to diss woody, but 'tis true)BlingRhames wrote:bad effects

Yeah, I thought Peeta was badly cast.
The acting was generally laughable, I thought, but what's-her-name did a pretty decent job, even though it seemed like she hated the role.
The audience was laughing at the kid's deaths in the theater, which I found to be a pretty good barometer of how off the mark the direction was.
