This movie encompasses so much of my childhood its ridiculous. People have a tendency to equate Star Wars to this childish sci-fi filled with light sabers, Ewoks, hairy sidekicks, cutesy droids, an impatience pesky Jedi in training and of course the biggest bad-ass ever. To me, it's so much more than that. Empire was not only a dark film for children, it deviated what many sci-fi movies did at the time. The acting will always be what it is in this series, though it's hard not to appreciate the witty banter from guys like Solo, Lando or the cool ass ways of Boba Fett or even Yoda. This movie defined my early years. It's a movie I still watch, still have fond memories of and still has influence on my life. A lot of movies came out in the 80s that were classics, but none as important to me than Empire. You could walk into just about any store today, whether its Target, Wal-Mart, Best Buy or most chains in the malls and you'll find something Star Wars related. It's really the biggest movie brand I can think of. This movie taught me the good guys don't always win. Shit ain't always happy. You can lose a hand if you fuck around, you could even lose it at the cost of your own pops. It also taught me trust no one. You never know when somebody is gonna drop a dime and sell you out for a little poon and peace up in Bespin.
