New TV Shows Premiering This Month (April)

Post by Dan »

Here’s what’s premiering in the month of April.

Lip Sync Battle (Spike TV)
Image

Lip Sync Battle is already a huge viral sensation. Now Spike is taking it to the next level with its very own show, hosted by LL Cool J and with colorful commentary by social media maven and supermodel co-host, Chrissy Teigen.
Each episode will feature two A-list celebrities like you've never seen them before - synching their hearts out in hysterically epic performances. The mic is off, the battle is on! (Premieres April 2nd)

The Grace Helbig Show (E!)

YouTube sensation Grace Helbig will be starring in The Grace Helbig Project, a hybrid comedy show that will feature the comedienne's fresh take on what's trending in pop culture, as well as exclusive interviews with various celebrity guests.
Helbig is best known for her "It's Grace" YouTube channel, which has earned the Internet phenom over two million subscribers. She is also the creator of the IAWTV and Streamy award-winning web series "DailyGrace", and her book Grace's Guide: The Art of Pretending to be a Grown-up made it to #1 on the NY Times Bestseller list. (Premieres April 3rd)

American Odyssey (NBC)
Image

From writer-director Peter Horton (Grey's Anatomy) and writers Adam Armus and Kay Foster (The Following) comes American Odyssey, a complex journey through global politics, corporate espionage and military secrets involving three strangers who only have one thing in common... the truth. In this "Traffic"-like action drama, an international conspiracy explodes when the lives of a female Special Forces soldier, a disillusioned corporate lawyer, and a political activist from a privileged family unexpectedly collide.
After a team of American soldiers battles jihadists in North Africa, they're shocked to learn that they've stumbled upon and killed Al Qaeda's top commander. Sergeant Odelle Ballard (Anna Friel, Pushing Daisies), a soldier, mother, wife and the unit's only female member, discovers computer files that prove a major U.S. corporation is funding the jihadists. But before she can tell anyone, her team is attacked and killed. The world is told that the unit was wiped out by enemy militants, but the truth is that Odelle survived and is the only witness to her unit's true assassins: private military contractors - Osela (think "Blackwater").
As Odelle struggles to survive and find her way home, in New York, former U.S. attorney turned corporate litigator Peter Decker (Peter Facinelli, Nurse Jackie) finds himself embroiled in a merger with the same company that funded the jihadists. As Peter begins to connect the corrupt dots of this company's terrorist involvement, Harrison Walters (Jake Robinson, The Carrie Diaries), a political activist and trust fund kid, meets a hacker, Bob Offer (Nate Mooney, The Riches), who claims to have unearthed a massive military-industrial-complex conspiracy. And Bob is right: he's stumbled onto the same cover-up that Odelle discovered, which will soon become a national headline with lethal implications. The only way they'll ever save their country, their families and themselves is by joining forces and exposing the people behind it.
The series also stars Omar Ghazaoui, Treat Williams (Everwood), Elena Kampouris (Men, Women & Children), Daniella Pineda, Jim True-Frost (The Wire), Sadie Sink and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (Lost). (Premieres April 5th)

The Comedians (FX)
Image

In The Comedians, Billy Crystal plays a comedy legend who is reluctantly paired with Josh Gad, an edgier up-and-coming star, in an unfiltered, behind-the-scenes look at a fictional late night sketch comedy show where egos and generations collide. Stephnie Weir stars as “Kristen Laybourne,” the anxiety-ridden producer behind The Billy & Josh Show who frequently finds herself caught in the middle of Billy and Josh's arguments, Matt Oberg stars as “Mitch Reed,” the show’s head writer, and Megan Ferguson stars as “Esme McCauley,” a no-nonsense production assistant. Together they spend most of their time managing the egos of their two stars and the generational divide that keeps them from ever fully seeing eye-to-eye. (Premieres April 9th)

Daredevil (Netflix)
Image

Marvel's Daredevil is a live action series that follows the journey of attorney Matt Murdock, who in a tragic accident was blinded as a boy but imbued with extraordinary senses. Murdock sets up practice in his old neighborhood of Hell's Kitchen, New York where he now fights against injustice as a respected lawyer by day and masked vigilante at night. (Premieres April 10th)

Tatau (BBC Three/BBC America)
Image

Tatau follows Kyle (Joe Layton) and Budgie (Theo Barklem-Biggs), two twenty-something friends from London that set off to travel the world. Ahead of the journey, Kyle gets a Maori-style tattoo to celebrate their eventual destination: the Cook Islands.
When snorkeling in a lagoon, Kyle finds the dead body of a local girl, Aumea, tied up underwater. Returning to the lagoon with the police, Kyle finds her corpse has disappeared. But Kyle knows what he saw. Desperate to uncover what happened, Kyle and Budgie find themselves sucked deeper and deeper into a world of Maori myths, symbols, and hallucinatory visions… until finally the full meaning of Kyle’s tattoo is revealed. (Premieres April 12th/18th)

Other Space (Yahoo! Screen)
Image

When their ship is drawn into a different universe, Captain Stewart Lipinski and crew must learn to work together while dealing with space clouds, robot rebellions, and the occasional alien attack. (Premieres April 15th)

Cedric’s Barber Battle (The CW)
Image

The new series Cedric’s Barber Battle sets out to capture the culture that exists in barbering communities across the country. Each week, the show will visit different barbershops in cities, including Los Angeles, Queens, Harlem and Austin, where the best barbers will go head-to-head in a hilariously unfiltered, no-holds-barred arena. Creating hair sculptures that feature elaborate designs ranging from images of a person’s face to grand cityscapes, the barbers will use nothing more than their clippers and a few coloring tools to create intricate works of art that are both imaginative and location-centric. (Premieres April 17th)

The Messengers (The CW)
Image

In the New Mexico desert, scientist Vera Ivanov watches in fascination as a mysterious object plummets to Earth and explodes, sending out a shock wave that briefly stops her heart. But Vera isn't the only one affected: she's instantly connected to four other strangers, who also collapse only to miraculously come back to life hours later. This group of strangers might be the only hope for preventing the impending Rapture…or causing it. (Premieres April 17th)

Chef's Table (Netflix)
Image

“Chef's Table” offers viewers the opportunity to go inside the lives and kitchens of six of the world's most renowned, international culinary talents. Each of the six episodes features an acclaimed chef, who include Ben Shewry (Melbourne, Australia), Magnus Nilsson (Järpen, Sweden), Francis Mallmann (Buenos Aires, Argentina), Niki Nakayama (Los Angeles, CA, USA), Dan Barber (New York City, USA) and Massimo Bottura (Modena, Italy). (Premieres April 26th)

HAPPYish (Showtime)
Image

Thom Payne is a 44 year-old man whose world is thrown into disarray when his 25 year-old "wunderkind" boss arrives, saying things like "digital," "social" and "viral." Is he in need of a "rebranding," or does he just have a "low joy ceiling?" Maybe pursuing happiness is a fool's errand? Maybe, after 44 years on this ludicrous planet, settling for happyish is the best one can expect. Bitingly funny and raw, HAPPYish features a stellar cast led by Steve Coogan, Kathryn Hahn, and Bradley Whitford. (Premieres April 26th)

Month is half way over and not one response? Figured people would be excited for Daredevil. I'm only interested in HAPPYish. Though, a sneak peek episode has already aired and I still haven't watched it.
