Dave Chapelle's Block Party.

Post by SYM »

Favorite moments: The Mr. T segment, the James Brown bandleader segment, the visit to the little kids, the kooky owners of the Broken Angel, and seeing Jill Scott and Erykah trade bars during "You Got Me".

the best was dave comparing comedians and musicians. and how he learned to play only one song on piano and it ended up being "round midnight".

very well done, well shot movie. gondry once again is the man. bigger appreciation for chapelle now even after the actor's studio appearance.

This got incredibly good reviews.

It doesn't seem like something I need to see in the theaters though.

if you like the artists, you'll like it. It's at least 50% concert type footage, but interestingly shot. I like the James Brown part a lot too, particularly the part about asking a girl to dance in the club.

I live in Norman Oklahoma and I went on a Sunday night and there were probably 25% black people in the theatre. I was suprised about that. I would have loved to be in the theatre on opening day. THe energy woulda been off the chain. My friend that I went with was SERIOUSLY into it, rappin along with it and dancing in his chair.

There were a LOT of middle aged white people in the theatre, one couple walked out halfway through though.

saw this on opening day. would have liked more funny, less music. editing should have cut out all the music from that fat poet chick. hated her. the rest was on point. dead prez brought it big time. did kweli have a cold or something..his voice was real raspy..he seemed to be struggling out there.

I saw this two days ago. Meh. Too much concert stuff. Never been a fan of concert films. But the verite stuff was really funny.

Also, I got to see my name on the big screen for the first time. I thought they were going to forget me in the credits but nope. I'm on there. Yea-yuh.

I liked the concert footage way more than i thought i would.

It was a fun film. There were some editing issues though. That weird aloholic couple should have been cut... Complete waste of time.

I really liked this movie. Shout out to cascarrabias, didn't know you worked on this or I would have looked for your name.

I wasn't sure if I'd like the concert scenes, but I did. Even for the arists that I wasn't as familiar with. Chappelle is funny - as expected. Like someone else said, I could listen to a CD filled with the Chappelle and Mos jazz comedy.

(POINT OF IRRELEVANCE) The light skin dude with braids/twisites and the african necklace used to be in a dance group with my gf.

i thought the part where mos was drumming and dave was telling jokes was hillarious

musical highlights:
dead prez-turn off the radio
black star-definition
the roots-boom

Watch it buddy. Toledo isn't much more than a suburb of Detroit.
