Most Classic Albums In A Row?

Post by Masked Terror #1 »

Would be cool if there was a less obvious answer, but I think this belt has to go to Zeppelin.

Zep 1
Zep 2
Zep 3
Zep 4
Houses of the Holy
Physical Graffiti

Six certified classics in six years. That shit is crazy.

Beatles and Stones have some misses sprinkled between the hits.

Who are some other contenders?

I'd take Slanted and Enchanted, Crooked Rain x 2, Wowee Zowee, and Brighten the Corners over those any day.

Zepplin's good, but eh...

I won't even address the absurdity of mentioning Pavement in the same breath as Zeppelin and just say this, five "great" albums in a row is fewer than six.

The Beatles I didn't really like Led Zeppelin 3 that much. Pavement doesn't have 4 classics in a row either.

It's not absurd. Pavement has much better lyrics. Zepplin has great music, but their lyrics are a bunch of drug addled, hippie bullshit.

Here's two contenders for you, old man.

Bob Dylan

Highway 61 Revisited
Blonde On Blonde
Basement Tapes
John Wesley Harding

Creedence released 5 albums in 2 years...so I don't see what's big about Zepplin releasing that many in 6:

Creedence Clearwater Revival (July 1968)
Bayou Country (January 1969)
Green River (August 1969)
Willy and the Poor Boys (November 1969)
Cosmo's Factory (July 1970)

Would you say that everything from Help! to Let It Be was a classic?

You could certainly make that argument. I'm not sure. I'm not a huge Beatles fan

Would definitely be the hottest hot streak ever. 10 (more or less) albums in 5 years.

LOL, I was just being argumentative. Zepplin's a great band, I just prefer Pavement's sound...being that I grew up listening to indie rock and all that.

From the jump, the bar was six classics in a row.

Fewer than that would be, well, fewer.

Just wanted to clear that up for everyone.

Any supported arguments for artists with more than six?

how classic are we talking here?

Can for instance is classic (somewhat), the run they had with Damiyo (sp?) was pretty great

also, less artsy/obscure, every Sabbath album wiht ozzy (not hatin on Dio mind you)

What about the Ramones? Although technically, releasing virtually the same album eight times in a row is not the same as releasing eight classic albums in a row.

Arlene has babyhead, not fivehead.

Between the Buttons 1967
Beggar's Banquest 1968
Let It Bleed 1969
Sticky Fingers 1971

Sabbath is a good contender, but personally I would only consider the first five albums to be truly great. When was the last time you listened to Technical Ecstasy or Never Say Die?

Buttons and Soup aren't quite on the same level as the middle four, wouldnt you say?
