Sacha Baron Cohen has signed up to do a sequel to his popular Borat movie based on the controversial Kazach journalist, according to Rupert Murdoch, chairman and chief executive of News Corp, whose film division last year released the first Borat film.
Mr Baron Cohen is currently working on a film to follow Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan, but it will be based on another one of his characters, Bruno, a gay Austrian fashion show presenter.
Universal Studios won the rights to the new film last year. However, once that is completed, Mr Baron Cohen will גcome back and do Borat Two,ג Mr Murdoch said during an interview at a conference in New York.
The revelation of plans for another Borat movie, which have not been announced by Mr Murdochגs film studios or Mr Baron Cohen, will come as some surprise as the huge popularity of Borat has led people to believe it would be hard for the character to continue to fool people into speaking to him.
Mr Murdoch said his 20th Century Fox film division did look at buying the rights to the Bruno movie but that they were not prepared to outbid rivals as Mr Baron Cohen גwould not even show us the scriptג.
The Borat movie has generated huge earnings for News Corp, and its film division reported record earnings on Wednesday.
Mr Murdoch, speaking at a conference organised by McGraw-Hill, said he had seen the first Borat movie three times and גlaughed like hellג.

They don't work for miramax anymore. They've had their own company for a few years.Sankofa wrote:The Weinstein bros. would sign anyone they figure could make them money.Icesickle wrote:It's weird that Rupert Murdoch is not only signing on for this film, but going to see it 3 times. Something's not right. This is like Miramax signing Mel Gibson to a 10 film contract.

People consider Murdoch to be very right wing, but it is a farce. He goes where the money is, and in news, that's the right, but in a lot of other things, (TV programs like "Who's Your Daddy?") he is very left of center because people love that kind of trash.
I'm curious as to what a Borat 2 would be, possibly a scripted comedy?

After Murdoch made the announcement, the internet was abuzz with the news. Cohen sources are claiming that no deal is on the table for a Borat 2. News Corp is now doing a huge back-step, claiming that Murdoch גwas under the mistaken impression that we had signed a deal.ג

Thus my saying "the Weinstein bros." instead of Miramax. Disney kept Miramax, the Weinsteins got to keep a few movies and started up the Weinstein Company complete with cheesy W logo.FreshShabazz wrote:They don't work for miramax anymore.
