You can use any of these beats, correct.

I think we can give people 2 or so weeks to record their verses - I won't be able to do anything until the weekend either. Plus we're still waiting on a few of the beats in 88bpm format.

If you are submitting a verse, let me know which beat you think you'll be using a reference. I'm kind of curious to see where people's heads are at.

I'm thinkin that "cold water"

fits with the way I'd write for the theme

also, I'm kind of curious as to whether or not people are gonna be mentioning their city's name in their verses, I know the theme is "where I'm from" but is it gonna be more of a vague description of life where you live or more reppin the actual city

based on those numbers, if we're going to do a single tempo for the track it would have to be 88bpm and we wouldn't be able to use "the clip" or "cold water"...which i think would be a shame.

my suggestion...start the track off with the clip, create a transition and come into extra strength, lone ranger, and suicidal at 88bpm so we can mix the three beats together and keep the same tempo. then another transition into cold water.

when i say transition i'm thinking of an audio (vocal) sample to tie into the track theme or scratch to let one beat drop before the next beat comes in so the change in tempo won't sound harsh or really noticable at all.
so i don't have to change my beat then?

This is my beat, "The Clip", at 93.115. I lowered the bitrate to make the file smaller.

4 bars lead in, 16 bars to rhyme, and by the time Jay starts his verse you should be done.

Someone, take a chance and rap over it. If not, it's still all good.

yea I need this....gotta leave tonight an I might not be online to grab the fixed version

if all he's doing is a tempo change I could do that in the studio before I record anyway....don't feel right tampering with someone else's beat though

any suggestions?

edit: or I could just rhyme over the slower beat if there's gonna be tempo changes...doesn't matter if it's in 16 bar snippet form, I can cut it easily enough

Paragraph president should confirm this, but I'm 90% certain AWAE's beat is staying at 79bpm.

In any case, you can start writing your verse to the version he has posted now. There shouldn't be any major changes.

One more thing - Have we completely abandoned the idea of doing a hook, now that the beats have varying tempos? I still think a scratched hook could be nice. And I encourage the rappers to fuck around with ideas for a chorus. Doesn't have to be anything spectacular, so don't buss yuh brains over it. It may not be used at all, but you never know.

Let's have some fun with this.

yea I was thinkin about a hook for the beat I'm using an I might just lay it down after my verse and see what people think of it

maybe if everyone did a similar hook that had small changes pertaining to the individual (like in a 4 bar hook for example....everyone could have the same 3 bars to start an the 4th bar could be fucked with to make it lead into your verse)

edit: or, using the same example...the 4th bar could be changed to highlight the emcee's city

I don't wanna dismiss your idea, but the "Welcome To Atlanta (Remix)" is not where it's at. Try to refrain from predictable sports-team references, etc.

? Then you need to clarify what you meant.

What do we do if we aren't from a major city that anyone remotely gives a fuck about? Can't we just describe our environs and situations growing up?

Oh and Marinville posted some scratches, but I am not the person to be judging those ...at all. I do enjoy scratched in hooks, though. I suck at devising hooks/choruses
