87 takes the cake.

It also ushered in the illest four year stretch ever-

87-
PE- Yo, Bumrush The Show
Eric B & Rakim- Paid In Full
LL Cool J- Bigger and Deffer

88-
PE- Nation of Millions
Eric B & Rakim- Follow The Leader

89-
Beasties- Paul's Boutique
NWA- Straight Outta Compton

90-
PE- Fear Of A Black Planet
Eric B & Rakim- Let The Rhythm Hit 'Em
LL Cool J- Mama Said Knock You Out
Ice Cube- Amerikka's Most Wanted

94 was pretty sick with debuts from Nas, Biggie and Outkast.

98 was the last good year for hip hop- Moment of Truth, Aquemini and Lauryn.

"88, you wait, the S1's will rock the hard jams, treat it like a seminar"

There's a reason that many people see 1988 as a turning point in rap music. Just check the pedigree:

The Great Adventures of Slick Rick
It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back
In Control, vol. 1
Straight Outta Compton
Long Live the Kane
Dana Dane With Fame
How Ya Like Me Now
Bigger and Deffer
A Salt With a Deadly Pepa
The World's Greatest Entertainer
Girls I Got 'Em Locked
Goin' Off
Follow the Leader
Critical Beatdown
Tougher Than Leather
Strictly Business
Power
By Any Means Necessary
Straight Out the Jungle
Lyte as a Rock
He's the DJ, I'm the Rapper
In Full Gear

For many of these artists, it would be the best work they ever did. Others, not so much. But everyone represented this year and flipped the previous styles.

I made a 5-disc chronological rap mix some years back, and 1988 was the only one to get its own CD.

Well, if we're throwing down several years, then mine would be 1983, 1988, 1991, 1994, and...oh, I dunno. Maybe 1996 or something.

Pretty ill to consider what a sick stretch 86-88 was for hardcore and metal too. Have never experienced an iller three year run overall.

Reagan's presidency was somehow really good for music and art in general.

Also, I am an old fart.

91-97 is my favorite era(since that's what it looks like this is turning into). Mid nineties indie 12"s,I live for that shit.
