great book. no fairytale shit. a raw and realistic (no false romance) description of how the Secondigliano work. I havent read many mob books but this one is good. recommended.drizzle wrote:how is this, subject matter got me curious immediatelyAp wrote:

Just finished this book a couple weeks ago. It's not necessarily amazing but I loved reading it.PopeyeJones wrote:Nah, not that crazy expensive. Been to the mid-town one and there are (or were) plenty of entrees at or under 20 bucks.RacquetballGangsta wrote:
man, i would love to go to his restaurant..pretty expensive or what?
do u watch his show on the travel channel? shit is DOPE
and yeah, book and tv show are dope.
Was on a trip for a week and just finished
Very good read. Too much of the bells and whistles bullshit that plagues motherfucker's whole generation of writers, and the ending falls apart, but still a great book.
Also just finishing up
and I think next I'm gonna pick up..

I would considered you a learned person, until you said "Behold a Pale Horse" and immediately followed it up with "deep shit" and truth.LONDON wrote:here's a couple of books people need to check out...

I just finished:
an amazing book. it is long, but it reads really fast. I can see why Michael Chabon won a pulitzer in 2001 for it. if you get a chance read it.
I am now reading:
I am a fourth of the way threw the book, and it is awesome. savagery and pillaging at it's finest. I enjoy reading Hunter S Thompson.

A "true story" about a model who had multiple personality disorder, and was hypnotized to bring out her alter ego, which became a 'spy' for the CIA without Candy actually knowing (well, she knew, but didn;t know how dep into it she was).
Halfway through and it's a good read, but her husband was a radio personality often going into UFO's and conspiracy theories which of course throws the validity of the book.

Finished "The Handmaid's Tale" and I really enjoyed it. Well written but easy read about a post apocalyptic restrictive society trying to repopulate. In the same vein as books like Fahrenheit 451, 1984, and Brave New World.jamrage wrote:Currently:

"The Woman in the Dunes" by Kobo Abe. About halfway in and loving it. It's about a guy who accidentally spends the night at a house that is surrounded on all sides by huge walls of sand. He is forced to stay there with a woman, and cannot climb out of the hole on his own. Sounds weird (and it is) but it's really entertaining.
They made a movie about it that got the criterion treatment. Really looking forward to seeing it when I'm done reading.

what do u think of the handmaids tale? i thought it was an interesting idea, sort of in the same galaxy as children of men, as far as fertility/reproduction being the main factor in society. but i found the writing uninspired and boring.jamrage wrote:Currently:

right now im reading:
pretty cool, but its pretty clear that A House For Mr. Biswas is his flawless masterwork.
I really enjoyed it, blew through it pretty quickly. The writing is simple but effective and has a lot going on I thought. Not dense at all just a straightforward narrative. The book was really about power and who had it as well as how it was wielded. So yeah, I think it's a pretty good book. I really like me some post apocalyptic movies/books so this fit right in with that. I'm going to rent the movie pretty soon actually.RacquetballGangsta wrote:what do u think of the handmaids tale? i thought it was an interesting idea, sort of in the same galaxy as children of men, as far as fertility/reproduction being the main factor in society. but i found the writing uninspired and boring.jamrage wrote:Currently:
