Re: MBV reunion tour
DOPE. The ICA shows were rehearsals for the shows at the weekend so they'll be playing this exact set hopefully. 'You Made Me Realise' is going to be excellent.tpp wrote:

Best show I've been to ages. Loved it.
The 10 minute reworking of 'You Made Me Realise' was a little pointless IMO and almost like they felt they needed to live up to the 'they're still so loud!' tag, but otherwise it was an amazingly good set.
Also, first time i've worn earplugs at a gig. Bought some a year ago and never used them, but wore them for most of the set last night and they're great - really cut out a lot of the distortion so I could actually hear tunes and vocals through the white noisy bits of the set. Loads of people had to leave because it was so loud, so definitely glad I was packing them. Still unsure as to whether they make me look like a seasoned muso, or just a cunt.
Loads of people selling tickets for face value too.
Glad you like my photo!! TAKE YOUR MEDICINE.

haha! i actually got pretty close to the front but the girl i was with couldn't see anything and asked if we could go further back... booooooo. fantastic show though, really physical and atmospheric, some of the people standing around me were completely losing it. went a bit loopy myself when they opened with 'i only said.'
tpp was just moaning to me two seconds ago about 'you made me realise' but i thought it was pretty funny - if a bit unnecessary. i was the only one in my section who realised they'd started playing the last verse as well - prompting people around me to ask 'why are you clapping THIS?' incredulously.
also, out of all the bands that have reformed for Don't Look Back type ventures, I really hope more comes out of this than just a reunion tour. at this point i couldn't care less if, say, slint release anything else, but a new MBV album and supporting tour would have me absolutely hyped.

I love the people trying to dance to it, even though their ears are about to start bleeding.
"Err, yeah, i knew it was going to be this loud? You obviously don't like them as much as me".

i spent the whole weekend drinking
i think i had a good time
i got there quite late and so was quite far back. it was still fucking loud and yeah the end was quite stupid just because i knew it was coming and y'know maybe 15 years ago it was mindblowing to see a band play noise for 15 minutes but now you can pay to see wolf eyes or whatever. however, i do agree that it was pretty hilarious that they went back into the song afterwards. rest of the set was fucking awesome. I think "I Only Said" was my highlight and people fuckin Freeeaked out when they played Soon.
everyone around me had their fingers in their ears - I put on the earplugs they gave you at the venue but they did fuck all. i was also really impressed with the roundhouse - what a great venue! like the south bank and that.
rest of the night and sunday WHAT HAPPENED
