The Taking Of Pelham One Two Three - Pretty good. Matthau was fantastic. Love that last shot.
The Professionals - How could a western with Lee Marvin, Woody Strode, Burt Lancaster, Jack Palance as a lunatic Mexican and Robert Ryan be so meh? Very average. Very disappointing.
A Day At The Races - My least favorite Marx Brothers movie. And what's with those out of place all black song and dance numbers?

The Protector
Finally got around to watching it as ive had the dvd for like 6 months+
Fucking amazing...the 10 minutes scene where he keeps going up the steps fucking people up WITHOUT the camera cutting is one of the illest scenes ive ever seen in a movie
got me looking forward to Ong Bak 2...which yall said they were making

Pump Up The Volume
Formulaic and predictable movie but quite honestly a guilty pleasure of mine and probably my fave Christian Slater movie. I prefer Samantha Mathis as a blonde but the titty shot was most welcome. I enjoyed the beginning of the movie as it gets really ridiculous towards the end, might have to do with how fucking gullible and annoying the teens get mostly.

Never been a big fan of Syndey Lumet, and this doesn't help. It's a great script, and has some good performances, but this is the kind of script that should have been relegated the stage. People don't talk in 5 minute monologues. Lumet's direction is underwhelming to say the least.

I watched three movies this weekend.
1. Art of War II - This shit was so bad, but not in a good way. Just a shitty movie all around. I usually enjoy Wesley Pipes' straight to video releases, but this one was beyond terrible.
2. Hard Boiled - I finally picked up the Dragon Dynasty version of this movie last week. What a great fucking movie. I forgot how much I loved this fucking thing. I am going on record to say that Hard Boiled is the greatest action movie of all time.
3. Trailer Park Boys - It is like the 5th time I have watched. I love this show so damn much. The movie isn't as good as the show, but their is some great cussing in the movie that gets me rolling.

I feel the opposite. The more I see of Lumet's early work the more I think he's criminally underrated. 12 Angry Men. His stuff with Sean Connery. Plus of course Serpico. Dog Day. Murder On The Orient Express. The Wiz. I need to see The Verdict still. Dude has an enormous filmography. I haven't even skimmed the surface of his early TV work.Icesickle wrote:Never been a big fan of Syndey Lumet, and this doesn't help.

It was a reactionary post mostly, but they did fuck up on the transfer and the subtitles somewhat. It definitely wasn't the definitive version they promised, and oddly enough it wasn't even the version they briefly toured at festivals to promote the new dvdRandom Sample wrote:What's different with the Dragon Dynasty version? Oh ok, because I thought they changed something in the movie. I didn't think anything was different. The last time I watched it, it was a dubbed version on VHS.drizzle wrote:It was a reactionary post mostly, but they did fuck up on the transfer and the subtitles somewhat. still, i don't know how you can front on the tracking shot, and the fact that the last shootout is 40 minutes long

FUCK
I HAVE seen die hard on the big screen and it was only a couple years ago too pwnt ftw omg
and I'm not fronting on hard boiled I just no longer think it's better than die hard
certainly it has way better action sequences though
don't waste your time arguing with me though since I'll probably have changed my mind again by this time next year anyway

this is actually the main point of my argument, so i'm fine leaving it at thatStormShadow wrote: certainly it has way better action sequences though
which movie is better all around is indeed debatable, and the answer might hinge simply on what the viewer wants or expects from his action movies
I'm a big fan of the super-serious ott melodromatic john woo style, so hardboiled is a better fit to my taste. At the same time I can easily see how these very qualities might be a turn off to others.
for the record I do love both like my own children
