Not to be too intent on bumping this, but this is a movie you need to go see. It defied my expectations by miles, and made great use of its soundtrack (including, most notably, a still unreleased Live song called "Hold Me Up" or "Lift Me Up"). Overall, the movie is more or less completely different from what I expected, and I'll probably see it again when it hits theaters.

B/C Kevin Smith has NO pull these days. This script was old as hell, and was originally supposed to be a Ben Affleck Joey Lauren Adams vehicle but he couldn't get it made. It's a Kevin Smith movie, but it is a movie because of the Apatow crew.blastmaster wrote:Why are they not marketing this as a Kevin Smith film?
During the Q&A, Smith said that he wrote this over the course of a week with Seth Rogen in mind for the lead, which suggests to me that the script isn't as old as you think it is. In fact, the story goes that it got greenlighted on the strength of the title alone.PopeyeJones wrote:B/C Kevin Smith has NO pull these days. Blog entries also suggest that he didn't have as hard a time getting this produced as you think he did.

Dude might have rewritten the script with Seth Rogan over a weekend, but he was trying to get this made right after Chasing Amy.BigCat8 wrote:During the Q&A, Smith said that he wrote this over the course of a week with Seth Rogen in mind for the lead, which suggests to me that the script isn't as old as you think it is. While that sounds entirely probable, can you link me to a source on that?PopeyeJones wrote:Dude might have rewritten the script with Seth Rogan over a weekend, but he was trying to get this made right after Chasing Amy.BigCat8 wrote:During the Q&A, Smith said that he wrote this over the course of a week with Seth Rogen in mind for the lead, which suggests to me that the script isn't as old as you think it is. Here's the closest thing I could find (first question)

I could be mistaken, but I thought I remembered him in interview back then saying that nobody wanted to make it. In any case, yeah, that's absolutely not the story he's telling now, and I may have been wrong about how far along the project got.

You might be thinking about Red State. His "horror" movie about people like Fred Phelps. I remember him saying that when he took it to the Weinstein company they didn't want to make it.PopeyeJones wrote:^^^^
