Ryan Reynolds has landed the coveted role of גGreen Lantern,ג getting the starring role in Warner Bros.' live-action film based on the DC Comics hero.
Martin Campbell will direct. The studio is still working on the pictureגs budget, but production is expected to begin in January.
The news caps off a memorable summer for Reynolds, who played Deadpool in גX-Men Origins: Wolverine,ג a performance that prompted Fox to begin development on a spinoff film. Reynolds followed that by starring opposite Sandra Bullock in the romantic comedy גThe Proposal,ג which crossed the $100 million mark this week.
Warners and Campbell chose Reynolds, who vied for the superhero role along with גThe Hangoverג star Bradley Cooper and Jared Leto. The momentum built for Reynolds in the last week, as he was the only actor whose option was extended.
Greg Berlanti wrote the script with Marc Guggenheim and Michael Green. Donald DeLine will produce with Berlanti. Reynoldsג reps at UTA are working out his deal.
The actor will next star in גBuried,ג a dark indie drama that will begin filming shortly in Barcelona with Spanish director Rodrigo Cortes. Reynolds will play a civilian contractor who is kidnapped in Iraq and awakes in a coffin, struggling against time to coordinate a rescue even though he doesnגt know where heגs buried in the desert.

I wonder if this will cause whatever hopes there were for Deadpool to be shelved. I'm just glad Timberlake wasn't selected. Considering The Proposal is banking right now, maybe that'll give Reynolds some modicum of pull when it comes to how the movie will turn out. Had to imdb the director...Casino Royale was an entertaining enough flick (beat the brakes off Quantum of Pointless), so hopefully this won't be some rush to get done hackjob of a flick.

actually, he should be Deadpool AND Green Lantern. He's that good.
if he could only do one, it should be Deadpool though.

wow, that's a great fucking call.Hayzoos wrote:Ryan Reynolds needs to be cast as Yorick in a Y: The Last Man movie
i don't see a prob with ryan reynolds as the green lantern even though i'd rather see someone play john stewart. it's hilarious to me how every single super hero since blade is white. apparently, only white people have the sense of righteousness to save people from evil.

I had spent about 15 minutes typing up a summary of the Green Latern Corps. and how each galactic sector has it's own guardian blah, blah blah ...
Then I realized no one would really give a shit anyway and erased it. But yeah, there's a bunch of different Green Lanterns. Think of them as an intergalactic police force.
Really? Reynolds as Yorick seems a horrible cast imo. You need someone younger and more awkward.Gregg Popabitch wrote:wow, that's a great fucking call.Hayzoos wrote:Ryan Reynolds needs to be cast as Yorick in a Y: The Last Man movie
Dane Cook could be ampersand though.

you make it sound like yorick should be michael cera.
Well when he starts out Yorick is THIS close to Cera, but yeah I'm not suggesting him by any means.Gregg Popabitch wrote:younger? makeup.jamrage wrote:Really? I don't have a name to give you, but I just don't think that Reynolds is a good cast for Y at all. I'd rather have a no name than Reynolds in fact.

And Earth has had several: the Golden Age Green Lantern, Alan Scott, the Silver Age Green Lanterns: Hal Jordan, John Stewart, and Guy Gardner. Now there's a Green Lantern chick or some shit? And also that one Leprechaun that became a Green Lantern in Ganthet's Tale. Basically, in the DC Universe, it's about as easy to become a Green Lantern as it is to get a job at Subway.Kalel wrote:Goddamnit ...tehgiftofgab wrote:i don't know shit about comic books but i thought the green lantern was black??

The guy set to direct this if it ever happens is the same dude who did Disturbia and wants Shia to play Yorick. Shia has already said he is interested but doesnt know when they will have time to actually do it. I know there is a lot of Shia hate out there but I can actually see him pulling off a decent Y.jamrage wrote:Well when he starts out Yorick is THIS close to Cera, but yeah I'm not suggesting him by any means.Gregg Popabitch wrote:younger? makeup.jamrage wrote:Really?
