id say just the opposite, ive really enjoyed watching it live, week by week having to think the ep thru afterwords, listening to the podcasts about it, i think watching it back to back is cheating yourselfdrizzle wrote:not at allTrademark wrote:never got in to it? Should I? Is it too late?
it's not the greatest thing ever but it is very good entertainment, sucks you in pretty hard if you let it.
lost works best when you can watch a couple at a time imo, watching it 'live' is frustrating. it's easier to keep track of numerous minor details when you absorb them all continuously in close succession as opposed to in tiny installments over a course of several months
if you start with season 1 now and don't burn through it too fast, by the time you get to 6 it should be out on dvd already. you wont skip a beat

what you're describing is a cultish ritual which adds more to the 'experience' of watching lost than to the actual content of the show itself. all these podcasts and weekly theoretical dissections are masturbatory to say the least. the plot is easily accessible, digestible and enjoyable without them.
the only thing you're cheating by watching it all in one clip are the writer's intentions to keep you hooked and watching week to week via constant twists and cliffhangers

well at the same time, lost has built an entire universe outside of the show, things like dharma, hanso, paik, widmore, content thats mostly only given outside the show, but at times adds to what you see in the show, so it enriches the actual episode watching experiencedrizzle wrote:what you're describing is a cultish ritual which adds more to the 'experience' of watching lost than to the actual content of the show itself. all these podcasts and weekly theoretical dissections are masturbatory to say the least. the plot is easily accessible, digestible and enjoyable without them.

Do you think something is taken away by not engaging in all this extra-textual stuff though?citizen wrote: well at the same time, lost has built an entire universe outside of the show, things like dharma, hanso, paik, widmore, content thats mostly only given outside the show, but at times adds to what you see in the show, so it enriches the actual episode watching experience
As content that by design isn't needed to understand and follow the plot, the studio created stuff is basically limited to:
*unnecessary details and back story (great if you're a huge fan, but pointless to the casual fan or fan who is catching up)
*red herrings (no shortage of those in the actual show)
*clues about answers that won't be provided on the show until later (if you're watching after the fact and back-to-back who gives a shit, as these teasers don't serve any purpose when you're watching at your own pace)
Likewise, the fan generated stuff is 99% crazy theorizing that's irrelevant to casual viewers or people watching straight through.

i would def give them credit for establishing one of the most expansive and successfully realized 'universes' since the star wars franchise.citizen wrote:well at the same time, lost has built an entire universe outside of the show, things like dharma, hanso, paik, widmore, content thats mostly only given outside the show, but at times adds to what you see in the show, so it enriches the actual episode watching experiencedrizzle wrote:what you're describing is a cultish ritual which adds more to the 'experience' of watching lost than to the actual content of the show itself. all these podcasts and weekly theoretical dissections are masturbatory to say the least. the plot is easily accessible, digestible and enjoyable without them.
the only thing you're cheating by watching it all in one clip are the writer's intentions to keep you hooked and watching week to week via constant twists and cliffhangers
but, much like star wars, i still maintain that it's none of it is particularly crucial to casual enjoyment.

same here. not speaking for drizz, but what I think both of us are saying is that all of the non regularly televised content isn't necessary in understanding or enjoying the show. While it's a nice addition for losties, you don't lose anything by not engaging with it.citizen wrote: i like the show, hope it all ends well

the casual viewing thing in this context was directly aimed at trademark and/or anyone else curious about the show who hasn't followed from the beginning and will likely not delve as deep into the all the minute details and extra material.
i'm just generally disagree with the idea that if you haven't been down since day 1 you can't 'understand' it, which is something i've heard more and more from involved fans as teh show progressed

no i think you can definately be down now, watch all 5 seasons in a week or two and be ready and enjoy season 6, i think its more some kind of resentment amongst hardcore fans who have put so much time and effort in to this show, like if i died and my wife got married again, some other guy moves into the house i worked hard for, i know thats natural but just doesnt feel right, i think its an emotional reaction for people. trademark i think this is the best drama of the decade, its incredible imo, hope you watch it and love it as much as i dodrizzle wrote:my sentiment as wellPopeyeJones wrote:same here. not speaking for drizz, but what I think both of us are saying is that all of the non regularly televised content isn't necessary in understanding or enjoying the show. Shit is SO on point. For people who have spent five seasons going through weekly 100+ page threads of theorizing, pored over screencaps, read countless wikipedia pages on obscure 17th century philosophers and the like, I totally get it too. It's not me, but I get it.drizzle wrote:this is one of the most honest assessments i've heard from a die hard fancitizen wrote: i think its more some kind of resentment amongst hardcore fans who have put so much time and effort in to this show, like if i died and my wife got married again, some other guy moves into the house i worked hard for, i
