This is going to be one of the biggest singles of the year. Good pop song, but Andre 3000 wants his style back.

this guy actually bites Andre 3000 more than Asher Roth bit Eminem.

plus this song sounds like a Lupe Fiasco single featuring some 2nd rate British singer

it's not a totally bad song, just not an original creation.

plus he's got no lyrics compared to Andre 3 Stacks.

I just want a new Outkast album, not a placebo.

rap is outta control.
You're in Heaven right now, God.
Create the universe you dream of.

didn't we already do this for 'i'll be in the sky' last summer, which incidentally was a much better song and still didn't go anywhere

Rrrrrr. Never have I been so excited about a rapper's potential, only for him throw it back in my face by doing the exact opposite of what he should do.

This is worse. Way more potential and a much sharper left turn.

Yeah. I'm still surprised that song didn't catch on. At any rate, I'd love to see Bob be the next big thing, so I wouldn't be mad if this got a lot of radio play, even if it is lackluster for him.

This shit is even too gay for me.

Ice, your commercial tastes are very suspect. First you said "Say Something" made you a believer in Drake, and then that "Bedrock" was the single of the year. What's going on, man?

Also, this shit will fall flat on its face soon enough. Once a couple more singles hit the circuit, this will be pushed out of rotation as quickly as they tried to capitalize on it. "I'll Be In the Sky" at least felt like an artist trying to meet his original fans and commercial success at the middle of the road. This is his equivalent to "Superstar".

"Nothin On You" is #16 on Billboard's Hot 100 Chart and #27 on Hip-Hop and R&B Singles Chart. "I'll Be In the Sky" went to #123 on the Hip-Hop / R&B Chart.

When you're only a spot below a song by Timbaland and Justin Timberlake on the pop charts you pretty much made a hit.

I thought you were implying that I was unduly hyping up this song's commercial prospects too, dun.

Stop trying so hard ACTEHLIMEY. The song isn't great, but it's better than most pop songs that litter Top 40 radio these days.

that might be true but I wouldnt know because I dont listen to that shit .
Bad music is bad music, the fact that its supposedly better than whatever other shit is selling right now doesnt really count for much.

still, be sure to keep us posted on what else is doing well in the charts. its obviously important to you.

Uhhh, yeah. It's kind of pointless to look at billboard position because first singles on first albums (mixtapes in this case) aren't even intended to be the biggest chart toppers. They're used to get the within-industry promotional networks in place.

Think about all the radio stations whose listeners might want to hear a B.O.B song. It's virtually impossible to coordinate all those stations into giving first week airplay to a no name. Cascades happen, usually over the course of months (particularly in rap music because of regionallism) and by the time the next song/next album is released promotional machines already have a known quantity, they already know which niche the artist is going to fall in.

As a particularly  example, is "Tim Mcgraw" on Taylor Swift's first album a worse song than "Teardrops on my Guitar" because it didn't chart as well, or did it just not chart as well because it was the first single and wasn't intended to be the big money maker? When she made the crossover on her second album, is "Love Story" a worse song than "You Belong With Me" because it didn't chart as well, or did it just not chart as well because it was the first single in a new market?

Traditionally nobody makes money on a first album (despite critical acclaim) and it's second albums where labels start to see profits as they're able to build off the marketing and buzz that new artists received the first time around. Another  example: Vampire Weekend's second album is probably by any measure an inferior product to their first album, but it's selling like crazy and it's the moneymaker. That couldn't happen without the critical acclaim of the first album.

Basically what I'm saying is that there are a bunch of faggy people on emo boards complaining about how vampire weekend's first album is their best and that's bullshit because the masses are into the second album. Same thing with Taylor Swift and people who are into pop-country on country messageboards, or just really into pop music on pop music boards.

Of course it's a little different because with hiphop mixtapes allow labels to create promotional machines without huge monetary investments and as a result first albums and first "official" singles can blow the fuck up (think Lil Wayne). Still though, early in someone's career it's fucking retarded to associate chart position with song quality (and it's debatable if that ever even makes sense).
