the chick >>> the guy that kicks half his verse in spanglish
I think what makes Aquemini special mostly is the fact that it aged brilliantly and that it is so varied and multi-dimensional. Illmatic sounds like a 90s NY rap album, Aquemini sounds like it could have been recorded last year.
I also rank this above Illmatic because of the many different styles andre and big can successfully spit, where as Nas pretty much has one style, one flow (one mic?)

Taking NOTHING away from Illmatic, the above statement is true.I think what makes Aquemini special mostly is the fact that it aged brilliantly and that it is so varied and multi-dimensional. Illmatic sounds like a 90s NY rap album, Aquemini sounds like it could have been recorded last year.

if we are living in a world where an album the caliber of illmatic already came out and then this bizarro world version of illmatic came out now i think it would be true. how many people have copied that formula to less than amazing results.Blockhead wrote:I know you're hyperbolizing but you gotta know that's not even close to true.DLG wrote:if it came out tomorrow only Jaz and European Blaq Poet fans would be checking for it.

true, but the fact remains it's an amazing album, regardless of when it came out. I stopped checking for new Nas shit a long time ago, if he dropped illmatic NOW, it would blow my mind. Keep in mind, that in today's market, anytime some drops a half way decent album, people lose their minds.ALASKA wrote:if we are living in a world where an album the caliber of illmatic already came out and then this bizarro world version of illmatic came out now i think it would be true. how many people have copied that formula to less than amazing results.Blockhead wrote:I know you're hyperbolizing but you gotta know that's not even close to true.DLG wrote:if it came out tomorrow only Jaz and European Blaq Poet fans would be checking for it.
granted there are all sorts of time constraints in this argument considering tha landscape of hip hop would be completely different if that album never came out...so it's not really worth getting into.
but yeah, aquemini is dope.

second best album....death certificate is betterALASKA wrote:you are arguing with a man who thinks predator is ice cubes best album. its a waste of timeDLG wrote:if it came out tomorrow only Jaz and European Blaq Poet fans would be checking for it.
and im pretty sure putting a kanye album in your top ten wins the awful opinion contest
you are like arguing with a brick wall that would rather have a keith harring piece than a lee piece. in other words your opinions suck.clark bent wrote:second best album....death certificate is betterALASKA wrote:you are arguing with a man who thinks predator is ice cubes best album. its a waste of timeDLG wrote:if it came out tomorrow only Jaz and European Blaq Poet fans would be checking for it.

basically. it would take a season of lost to explain the time travel implications of making this happenBlockhead wrote: granted there are all sorts of time constraints in this argument considering tha landscape of hip hop would be completely different if that album never came out...so it's not really worth getting into.
