Any team can get Michael Beasley for Nothing???
Draft day the end for Beasley in Miami?
11:01pm ET
Michael Beasley | Heat
From The Miami Herald:
"ESPN's Chris Sheridan joined 'The Jorge Sedano Show' on 790 The Ticket Wednesday to discuss the NBA. When the topic was about Michael Beasley's future with the Miami Heat, Sheridan said, 'that he believes Bealsey will be traded on draft day.' I agree with Sheridan and think it's obvious Beasley's future is not here in Miami. His game doesn't seem to mesh well with Dwyane Wade and the benching in Game 5 of the Boston series speaks volumes. At this point, getting cap space in a year like this could prove to be a much better option for the Heat."
This, of course, is nothing new. When Miami was ousted from the playoffs last month, there was a lot of chatter that Beasley would likely be traded by the team. It's possible with his inconsistent run so far in the league all the Heat might be able to get back is cap space for Beasley.
Such cap space could help Miami piece together a roster around Dwyane Wade and another superstar, such as Phoneix's Amare Stoudemire, if he signs with the team as a free agent this summer.
Nets could be in play for Beasley
"There are two teams that I believe might take on Beasley in what would be a lopsided, cap-clearing trade for the Heat that could be agreed to by June 30, but could not be announced until the new cap is set July 8: Minnesota and New Jersey. Both are going to have loads of cap room, and neither is a particularly attractive destination for free agents. The solution: Acquire players via trade into their cap space. Example A: Miami offers Beasley, Daequan Cook, James Jones, $3 million and a future No. 1 to Minnesota for basically nothing. The Heat thereby clear all their contracts and get their payroll down to zero (besides Wade), and the Wolves get the No. 2 pick of the '08 draft and a future No. 1. Example B: Miami offers the same package to the Nets, who need to restock and won't find many players eager for two years of purgatory in Newark."
Beasley could be moved to free up more cap space
"But even if [Heat president Pat] Riley is able to land one extremely heavy hitter in free agency (that list begins with LeBron James and continues with Chris Bosh, Amare Stoudemire and Carlos Boozer), he isn't going to have enough room to get that second stud if he still has Beasley on the roster making $4.96 million. And sources have told ESPN.com that Miami, fed up with Beasley's lack of devotion to defense and his steep learning curve in the maturity department, tried diligently to move Beasley before the trading deadline in February but found no takers willing to give up anything more than garbage. So if Beasley can be moved before the draft for a player with only a partial guarantee for 2010-11, or if the Heat can arrange an uneven deal (in terms of salaries) and send him to an under-the-cap team in a trade that would be consummated after the league's one-week moratorium on player movement ends July 8, look for Riley to go for it."

Why an Arenas-Wall duo could work
Gilbert Arenas | Wizards
When we talk about the Wizards likely selecting John Wall with the first pick in the draft later this month, most think a backcourt of Gilbert Arenas and Wall will work.
Arenas plays more like a 2 guard, the thinking goes, so he can shift over while Wall assumes point-guard duties for the team.
But there's evidence beyond just this logic that Arenas may actually prefer such a setup.
Writes Michael Lee of the Washington Post: "(Arenas) was a shooting guard in his two seasons at Arizona. And, when he shared the backcourt with Larry Hughes in his first two seasons in Washington, Hughes led the team in assists both seasons. Arenas actually enjoyed not being the lone playmaker on the team. At times, the responsibility frustrated him last season under [coach Flip] Saunders' system.
"Arenas became a bigger star and scorer when Hughes left, but that was because he shared the backcourt with Jared Jeffries and DeShawn Stevenson; players who got time on the floor because of their ability to defend."
Of course, this doesn't mean it's going to be a smooth trasition for Gil. And there's a chance he could be traded or bought out before the season starts and this could all be moot.
But there's certainly previous history to suggest such a pairing won't be a huge issue, at least as far as the x's and o's are concerned.

Bulls to interview McHale?
According to the Chicago Sun-Times, former NBA player, executive and head coach Kevin McHale said during a conference call Tuesday that he expects to interview for the Bulls head coach vacancy with general manager Gar Forman and executive vice president basketball operations John Paxson.
"Yeah, I suppose that," McHale said. "We've had some just primary discussions and I've talked to both Gar and Pax a little bit. So, I mean, we'll see where it goes from there.
"As far as Chicago goes, everybody, I think, would like that job. It's a good young team. They've got Derrick Rose, they've got other good young players, they have free agency, full money under the [salary] cap. I think there's a lot of positives there. But again, I guess that's just going to be a wait-and-see thing. I think they're going to interview a lot of people and it'll be up to Pax and Gar Forman to make that decision."
McHale currently works for TNT as a studio analyst.
Bulls next head coach?
* Maurice Cheeks. In it from the start, he's still believed to be a top candidate.
* Boston assistant coach Tom Thibodeau. He would bring a defensive mindset to the team, but he could be hired by the Hornets soon. The Bulls is looking to interview at some point.
* Ex-Nets coach Lawrence Frank. Two reports say he's fallen on their list, but he still may get an interview this week.
* Dallas assistant Dwane Casey. Before Del Negro's firing, Ken Berger of CBS Sports wrote that Casey "would receive serious consideration" if Del Negro was let go.
* Kevin McHale. It's been reported he's in the mix.
* John Calipari. There's been buzz about a package deal of Cal and LeBron, but the Bulls likely won't pursue it.
* Houston assistant Elston Turner. He chatted with the team two weeks ago.
* Phil Jackson, Doc Rivers. Long shots. But the Bulls would likely hire either if they had the chance.
* Milwaukee assistant Kelvin Sampson. One report says he could be in the mix.

Bulls sign Tom Thibadeau.
Tom Thibodeau has accepted the Bulls' 3-year offer to become the team's 18th head coach in franchise history, according to sources. No formal announcement can be made until the conclusion of the NBA Finals between the Lakers and Thibodeau's Celtics.
Thibodeau, 50, has served as an assistant with seven teams over 18 NBA seasons, including his current position as associate head coach with the Celtics, who are in the NBA Finals.
He is known as a defensive specialist -- his teams have finished in the top-10 defensively 15 times.
Thibodeau's only previous head coaching experience came in 1984, when he spent one season at his alma mater, Salem (Mass.) State, a Division III school. After leaving Salem, he was an assistant coach for four seasons at Harvard before beginning his NBA career.

Sources said Thibodeau is expected to keep Pete Myers on his staff and bring with him former Bulls and current Thunder assistant Ron Adams. Other candidates for his staff include Thunder assistant Mo Cheeks, former Knicks assistant Andy Greer and former Kings coach Eric Musselman.
Former Bull Rick Brunson will be considered for player development roles, joining expected holdover Randy Brown.
Thibodeau turned down an offer from the Hornets to take the Bulls' job, which sources indicated was his preference all along. He also interviewed with the Nets.
Thibodeau was considered a candidate to succeed interim coach Jim Boylan in 2008. But by the time the Celtics won the NBA title that year, the Bulls already had flirted with Mike D'Antoni and Doug Collins. Management never interviewed Thibodeau before hiring Vinny Del Negro.
Thibodeau impressed Bulls management during a Wednesday interview in Los Angeles on the eve of Game 1 of the NBA Finals. Specifically, sources said, his ideas on drive-and-kick offense and player development most impressed executive vice president John Paxson and general manager Gar Forman.
Jeff Van Gundy, who long has been Thibodeau's biggest proponent, hired him as his lead assistant with both the Knicks and Rockets. In a recent interview with the Tribune, Van Gundy sounded astonished no team had hired Thibodeau.
"It's almost like he's been too good for too long as an assistant," Van Gundy said. "So now he's taken for granted."
No longer.

What the Dalembert trade means
2:22PM ET
Samuel Dalembert | 76ers
Top Email
According to two league sources speaking to ESPN's Chad Ford, the Sixers have agreed to swap Samuel Dalembert to the Kings for Andres Nocioni and Spencer Hawes.
As we noted last week, Nocioni was asking for a trade out of town, so he got his wish.
Additionally, the Kings have long been after Dalembert, according to Ford.
But does this now have draft ramifications for the Sixers? With Dalembert gone and another wing in Nocioni now on the team, it's possible they could now lean towards Derrick Favors with the No. 2 pick instead of Evan Turner.
The trade could also have the Kings using the No. 5 pick for something other than size now, too.
Ford explains:

Collins covets Favors; Kings could look to three spot now
"The real ramifications may come during the draft. The Sixers have been deciding between Evan Turner and Derrick Favors with the No. 2 pick. While Sixers general manager Ed Stefanski is a Turner fan, head coach Doug Collins is high on Favors. With Dalembert gone and Nocioni in, it could push them in the direction of Favors. For the Kings, this could also change their draft equation. The team has been looking at drafting DeMarcus Cousins and Greg Monroe, both centers. With this deal, it could allow them to address another need at the three. the Kings have been high on both Al-Farouq Aminu and Gordon Hayward."

This seems like an awful trade for the Sixers. First, Dalembert was their best interior defender, and now that job goes to... Elton Brand? Yikes. Hawes is soft as hell and is not a starting center in this league.keL wrote:FUCKPositive A wrote:Apparently the Kings have traded Nocioni and Hawes to 6ers for Dalembert. Plus you add the volatile Nocioni, Iguodala AND Turner? You are logjammed at the 2/3 and you have gaping needs in the front court.
Isn't Dalembert a free agent at the end of the year? Why not hold on to him and use his expiring contract as a trade piece?

Doug Collins covets Favors. Stefanski covets Turner. Looks like Collins is going to win this out. Everyone knows that if Turner is gone, the Nets will take Favors.
So this all means that the 76ers are probably drafting Favors.

The Golden State Warriors unveiled a new logo, color scheme and branding elements today, all of which bring together the past and future of one of the National Basketball Associationגs longest tenured franchises. The new look was officially unveiled earlier today with the launching of the teamגs redesigned website ג www.warriors.com.
The Warriorsג new primary logo salutes the teamגs Bay Area past and links to the exciting prospects of the organizationגs future. A silhouette of the yet-to-be-completed Eastern Span of the Bay Bridge is the focal point of the design and a direct spin-off of גThe Cityג logo, one of the most popular emblems in the history of professional sports. Depth was added to the circular band portion of the logo ג taken directly from the original model ג to provide a modern customization of the graphic design. The simple, yet sleek, design of the Warriors new logo is the result of an 18-month creative and marketing collaboration between the Warriors, the National Basketball Association and adidas ג the official outfitter of the NBA.
גThis new logo pays homage to our organizationגs rich history and unique standing in the Bay Area sports community,ג said Warriorsג President Robert Rowell. גThe throwback uniforms weגve worn as part of the NBAגs Hardwood Classics initiative in recent years have been extremely popular with our fans, and we set out to design a new look that was clean and traditional in that same spirit. We are grateful to the NBA and adidas for providing us with a magnitude of creative freedom, along with invaluable expertise, during this process.ג
The depiction of the Bay Bridge in the primary logo serves as the link between the Warriorsג original Bay Area home in San Francisco, where the team arrived from Philadelphia 48 years ago, and its current home in Oakland, where the team is headquartered downtown and has played home games at Oracle Arena (formerly the Oakland Coliseum Arena) for the last 39 seasons.
The colors of the new logos and branding elements are Warriors Royal Blue and California Golden Yellow. These two colors have been the most prevalent in the teamגs Bay Area uniform history, appearing as the dominant scheme in four of the last five decades since the teamגs arrival on the West Coast in 1962.
As part of the new identity launch, the Warriors also introduced three additional trademark emblems ג a partial logo, and a pair of secondary logos:
* The partial logo is very similar to the primary, but adds the presence of lines depicting a basketball in the background of the Bay Bridge.
* One secondary logo features an outline of the State of California, with a large גWג in the northern section representing the clubגs location in the גGolden State.ג This logo is also a modern spin-off of a logo that was utilized by the Warriors for nearly three decades (70גs, 80גs and 90גs) when the teamגs logo had a prominent northern star placed over an outline of California.
* The other secondary logo simply incorporates the basketball featured in the partial logo with a large גSFג centered vertically inside the ball, in recognition of the fact that the Warriors played in San Francisco for the first nine years (1962 ג 1971) of their existence in Northern California.
Merchandise featuring the teamגs new look will be available for the first time exclusively at the teamגs 2010 NBA Draft Party, which will be held at Oracle Arena on Thursday, June 24 at 3:30 p.m. and is free to the public. Merchandise will also be available on-line through the Warriors Team Store, but not until AFTER the June 24 Draft Party.
love em

Mchale New Celtics Coach?
Rivers' replacement
Doc Rivers | Celtics
Top Email
Doc Rivers has one year remaining on his contract after Thursday night's Game 7.
But as has been brought up on several occasions, his future remains uncertain. There's a chance Rivers might hang up the clipboard for now and spend more time watching his three children play sports at both the high school and college level.
So if Rivers decides not to come back? ESPN's Marc Stein lists Kevin McHale, Vinny Del *** and Armond Hill as possible replacements:
ESPN's Marc Stein
McHale is most likely Rivers successor
"As noted in this cyberspace more than once recently, sources consistently volunteer NBA TV's Kevin McHale as Rivers' most likely successor. Although it'll be interesting to see what sort of endorsement McHale gets from Garnett after their frosty final days together in Minnesota, McHale's looming candidacy stems not only from his Boston ties but because no former teammate of Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge is closer to Ainge than McHale. (Wisecracks are already circulating, mind you, about Ainge needing to hire McHale to properly repay him for the KG trade.) The only other two names to gain any traction so far: Massachusetts native Vinny Del *** (another ex-teammate Ainge is known to be fond of) and underrated Celtics assistant coach Armond Hill (although there are suspicions Celts ownership will insist on someone with a higher profile)."

The Knicks and LeBron
Stephen A. Smith was on ESPN Radio in New York recently, and he indicated that LeBron James' camp was doing some due diligence on the Knicks and they have New York higher on their list than before.
"From what my sources tell me, he still hasn't made a final decision but he's higher on New York now than he was a month ago," he said, according to RealGM. "And the reality is that he is leaning more towards New York than he is towards returning to Cleveland ... He and his people have been digging deeper and deeper ... to inquire about Donnie Walsh and Mike D'Antoni around the league.
"They have been asking questions over the last week, very in-depth questions, about the New York Knicks organization."
For now, we're going to file this one in the "very speculative" cabinet.
While James and crew may be gathering intel on the Knicks, there's been very little, if any, indication that James is leaning New York, or anywhere right now, for that matter.
But at the same time, James and his camp are being tight-lipped, so nothing can really be ruled out. Hence the almost overwhelming speculation on a few teams over the past several weeks.
RealGM also notes that "Smith suggests that the prospect of competing head to head with Michael Jordan's legacy in Chicago is dampening James' interest in the Bulls."
This runs in direct contrast to what ESPN's Chad Ford wrote last week about James' thoughts on playing for the Bulls:
ESPN's Chad Ford
LeBron sees Jordan's imprint as an enticement
"In theory, though, one thing could deter LeBron from joining the Bulls -- a bronze statue standing outside the United Center. As good as LeBron is, he'll never be Michael Jordan to most Chicago fans. Does he really want to play in the shadow of MJ? That's not how LeBron sees it, according to a source familiar with his thinking. Rather than a deterrent, LeBron seems to see Jordan's imprint on the Bulls as an enticement -- not as a legacy to fear but as one to consider joining. LeBron is a lifelong fan of Jordan, even taking No. 23 in honor of His Airness -- and then making a public declaration that he would further honor Jordan by changing his uniform number from 23 to 6 for next season. Just as Shaquille O'Neal jumped to the Lakers after superstar big men Wilt Chamberlain and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar had won a combined six rings in Los Angeles, and just as Kobe Bryant wanted to play in a city in thrall to iconic guards Jerry West and Magic Johnson, who likewise won six titles between them, LeBron appears to regard MJ's six championships as a draw and Chicago as a natural destination for a player of his caliber."
It seems to me that Amare and Bosh both play more a blend of three and finesse four than the traditional four. While Wade would have someone to bail him out (throw the alley to in traffic), I don't foresee Amare having enough defensive ability to entice Riley-though, at this point, Riley is most interested in appeasing Wade. I recognize Amare has come a long way, but am still far from sold on his being worth a max deal. You can't tell me a guy that athletic can't pull down double digit boards without too much extra effort. I can only wonder how his game would change without Nash's playmaking ability and the uptempo game of the Suns.an-also wrote:Amare joins wade. Bosh joins Lebron

From my understanding, Bosh is more of a jumpshooter, which is pretty much the role Haslem plays at a lower level. Does Boozer have more of a post game? Either way, I feel Wade needs someone other than an oversized jumpshooter to compliment his game. How's Boozer's court vision? Reason I'm asking all these questions is because I don't have cable and a post up player with vision would then be able to find Wade. I know Boozer's game is pretty close to the floor, but he's crafty and a post game would let him find Wade on cuts.Gilbert Subpoenas wrote:Everything i've read and heard about Miami is one of either:
1) Riley isn't sold on Amare defensively and would rather sign Bosh or Boozer
Fricking worthless Beasley.
Only way I see that is if Wade wants it. I just don't see those dudes peacefully (and productively) coexisting.Gilbert Subpoenas wrote:2) Amare to Miami is already set in stone.

bosh takes it to the rack. thing is, having an oversized jump shooter may be a good thing for players like lebron and wade. that is 2 less big men (bosh and his defender) that aren't in the paint area when wade/lebron drive.Sankofa wrote:From my understanding, Bosh is more of a jumpshooter, which is pretty much the role Haslem plays at a lower level.

I like Bosh more than Amare, he's a better rebounder. They both play matador defense.Positive A wrote:Great new uni's.

I was thinking about spacing when typing it, but didn't want to add to the stream of randomness. Based on numbers, Bosh would be more likely to go in for the rebound were Wade to miss and dude would be good for the bailout pass converted to jumpshot. If I had to chose between the two, it'd be Bosh because (A) dude's exhibited no headcase tendencies, (B) injury history, (C) I just don't like Amare. How much influence do you think David Robinson had on players like Bosh and Amare? I considered the Admiral to be a very tall 3 whose game was predicated on a (strange) jumper, and using quickness to get by his defender. Thing is, on defense, he seemed a traditional 5. How is Bosh's D?Gilbert Subpoenas wrote:bosh takes it to the rack. thing is, having an oversized jump shooter may be a good thing for players like lebron and wade. that is 2 less big men (bosh and his defender) that aren't in the paint area when wade/lebron drive.
So where would he end up, PR?

PHILADELPHIA -- Allen Iverson is working on a comeback.
Iverson
Iverson
Gary Moore, Iverson's personal manager, said that Iverson is planning a return to the NBA next season. Iverson returned to the Philadelphia 76ers in December and took a leave of absence in March because of family issues.
"Allen is working out and he's getting himself prepared to make his return," Moore said by phone Friday. "He absolutely will try and play next year."
Iverson left the Sixers to deal with an undisclosed illness of his 4-year-old daughter, Messiah.
"With God's graces, she's doing very well," Moore said.
Iverson has not talked publicly since ending his second stint with the Sixers. Iverson's wife, Tawanna, filed for divorce the same week he left Philadelphia. He posted messages on his Twitter account in March telling fans he expected to overcome the most recent obstacles in his life.
Iverson's most recent Twitter updates were promotions for his basketball camp in July and his documentary "Deconstructing Allen Iverson." Moore said the film could be released in the fall.
Iverson was the No. 1 overall pick in the 1996 draft and spent his first 10 seasons in Philadelphia. He won the MVP in 2001 when he led the Sixers to the Finals.
Sixers president Ed Stefanski said on an NBA.com chat this week the team was "not aware of what his plans are for the future."
Iverson, who turned 35 on June 7, was a four-time scoring champion and averaged 26.7 points in a 14-year career with the Sixers, Denver, Detroit and Memphis. He failed to win a championship.
Iverson made a tearful return to Philadelphia eager to prove he wasn't finished after disastrous stints in Detroit and Memphis. He returned to a sold-out crowd dotted with No. 3 jerseys, but he only showed flashes of his former playmaking self when he ruled the NBA as one of the best guards around.
"Allen wants to come and help a team win a championship, which he's completely capable of doing," Moore said.
