Best Soundtrack of the 90s?

Post by step one »

Obviously following Boyz N The Hood and Juice there was a flood of Hip Hop soundtracks during the 90s, most of which contained some absoloute classics that are forever associated with the films, alongside some sub-par R&B and new artists that the record company was trying to build a buzz for.
Which is your favourite?

Know The Ledge and Juice is still the best marriage of hip hop song and credit sequence in a movie.

Fight The Power in Do The Right Thing a close second.

I'm between Juice and High School High. Even for the non-hip hop songs on Juice, they are memorable 90's new jack swing R&B songs I like and remind me of how hip hop culture was at the time. High School High has a level of consistency throughout that many of the other soundtracks don't. Me and my cousin used to get heated in the early 90's after bringing home hip hop movie soundtracks that only had a few really dope songs on them and the rest was some garbage.

Anybody remember the romantic comedy Strictly Business? It depends on where you were living at the time for the feeling you got in watching this movie, I'm from Harlem New York so it described my world perfectly. Starring Tommy Davidson from In Living Color, Halle Berry, Samuel Jackson and cameos by Nice & Smooth and Redhead Kingpin. I remember going to see it with my high school class when it was in theaters. The soundtrack has some dope hip hop, if you don't mind the early 90's new jack swing R&B influence on most the songs, I'm a fan of that style. It's got Fat Rat by Grand Puba and the classic R&B party song "You Called And Told Me" by Jeff Redd.

Lot of good choices listed already.
I really liked Friday and also the extra Friday disc that had all the soul joints from the movie.
That shit is hard to find.

i'd say soul in the hole was the most consistent. But for a major/semi-major flick, above the rim takes it.

Rakim? I think you're thinking of Blinky Blink. Easy mistake, I confuse them all the time.

'Street Fighter' is my favorite.
