I also just heard Roc is doing an album with Madlib.

Dammit, now I have to hate Marcberg.Icesickle wrote:This grew on me a lot too. The album has a lot of filler, but there's not many artists putting out tracks as good as "Pop," "Snow," "Don Shit," and "Marcberg." Revisiting albums cause of a latent Pitchfork co-sign ftw.
I like how he sneaks in little details into his rhymes that distinguish them from other street rap, eg, how he says "dead broke...in a pea coat" or talks about creeping with girls who play clarinets. The only problem I have is that these idiosyncrasies, coupled with his flow, often remind me a little too much of Raekwon and on some songs the resemblance is too much ("Marcberg") that it comes off like biting.
Overall though, the guy's a great MC and great beatmaker, and the 4 songs I mentioned above are the best NYC street rap I've heard in a while besides Meyhem Lauren's "Got the Fever," some tracks off OB4CL2, and most of Cormega's last album. I slept on this hard because, like aeokq said, I was listening to a bunch of tracks on headphones when it first came out and hadn't given it a proper bump in ze whip.
I never understood when people use to say that an album was made for the walkman (portable cassette player for you 15 yr olds), I just assumed they meant it didn't bump in the system.aeokq wrote:Marcberg sounds so much better in the whip than in the home system.
Relax bro, I got a reggaeton playlist ready for when you come to the East Bay.Thun wrote:Jayou Ayen wrote:But yet oldies sound crisp and clear?Icesickle wrote:
I first heard Marcberg on my ipod, and it sounded fine, dusty but fine.
It sounds like shit in my car though. I'm not expecting it to hit, but it sounds really funky, like it wasn't mixed right or something.

Nah man, your time is precious. Don't let something like a cursory listening experience get in the way of making your claims.Icesickle wrote:Maybe I need to listen to it more, but the four songs I mentioned stand out from the rest of the album primarily because of the beats.Philaflava wrote:A lot of filler?
