actually, i do think a lot of rappers are hustling people, whether they know it or not. but i think most do know it as well. rap's a fuckin hustle just like anything else. some people sell you .7s while the other ones are givin you grams. i haven't bought a 20 bag in forever. i try my best not to get hustled.Echo Leader wrote:LOL. That's a very generic statment to make. It could be argued that every musician ever hustles their fanbase by pandering to them. If that's the case, why do you even bother listening to music?arson_daily wrote:yeah, cause it's totally implausible that mf doom is hustling his nerdy, white fanbase.
Nah...if Subroc hadn't been hit by a car Doom would probably still be Zev Luv X. He turned his emceeing into a cathartic exercise to help cope with a shitty hand of cards he'd been dealt by life. Have you ever actually LISTENED to Operation: Doomsday?arson_daily wrote:for the record, if mf doom WASN'T a gimmick, he'd probably still be zev love x.
Oh, that's right, probably not because then you'd be one of the poor sheeple that got hustled.
The fact of the matter is, before Doom went off the deep end a few years ago he was untouchable as far as work ethic and quality of said work is concerned. Only when bedroom producers started making shitty cut-n-paste albums and Doom started rapping like a cartoon character did the quality suffer.
yeah, i know the background story. i don't care if his dad raped him, being a super hero as a rapper is a gimmick. especially when he used to rap like a real rapper. but if you read what i said in this thread you would know i've listened to almost all of doom's catalogue and have actually enjoyed a very small amount of it. i actually think doom is a great lyricist. i just happen to be one of those people who thinks rapping consists of lyrics AND sounding good at the same time. and unfortunately for doom, he raps like he's comin down from a bellringer. he has the laziest flow i ever heard by a person who is as respected as him.
i'm sure he'll do two .7s for 35 though.
