Also, thanks for posting up that Incline tape Jaz...I remember when ROBME posted that back in 2009. I spent a good portion of my summer listening to all the sick Bay Area demos they were dropping.

Re: Every Other Demo I Have (sorry for flooding the board)
for you guys not able to get the password working, copy and paste what's INSIDE the " ". do NOT include the " ". i put those in there cause others have had problems copying/pasting and weren't including a possible space/other characters at the beginning or end of the password. others are able to extract the files using the pw i provided so that's verification that it works. to ensure you copied and pasted the right thing, you can always try pasting what you copied into a text document or browser URL form/bar just to see if you copied the correct text.
Re: Every Other Demo I Have (sorry for flooding the board)
That was the first thing I tried. But still not working. I also tried to remove the "*", "." and the empy spaces but that didn't do the trick neither. And I always ansure myself that I copied the right text. A re-up would be nice since there seems to be no way that this password is gonna work, for me atleast.atlantiswasreal wrote:for you guys not able to get the password working, copy and paste what's INSIDE the " ". do NOT include the " ". i put those in there cause others have had problems copying/pasting and weren't including a possible space/other characters at the beginning or end of the password. others are able to extract the files using the pw i provided so that's verification that it works. to ensure you copied and pasted the right thing, you can always try pasting what you copied into a text document or browser URL form/bar just to see if you copied the correct text.

Re: Every Other Demo I Have (sorry for flooding the board)
This is a GREAT thread, good work Nobs.
I'm curious, have you ever came across a demo tape by the Urban Beatniks? They were a group from Oakland with connections to The B.U.M.S. and their demo tape was from 1993 and had 4 songs I believe, 1 of which was the dope "Smoke Filled Room" joint I converted & uploaded from one of my old Wake Up Show tapes and posted here a few years ago. Joe Quixx has told me he has that demo tape, but he doesn't have the means to convert it and he's also not someone who loans out shit like that. haha

But anyways, I'm a little confused about a few things here in this post... and please bare with me and read everything before gettin potentially upset. And I only say that because people always seem to think I'm tryin to start shit when I'm just tryin to understand...
Ok first, you said this Nobs... "i'm gonna be very honest and say i didn't necessarily get the permission to release these. but maybe all of you can keep it quiet" and that confuses me because why is that something you feel the need to say? All over this board people are converting, uploading and sharing ALL KINDS of Hiphop music, rare or not, and no one ever says that.
And second, you said this... "This is the only reason I hate doing this. I literally don't have consent to post any of these". How is it that you seem to be so cautious in regards to sharing this music with people, yet you and others who own these demo tapes can go and sell them and make a profit off someone elses work??? Shouldn't it be the other way around? I just don't get it. What's the big deal about sharing the music on these demo tapes? Music is made to be enjoyed by people, right? Somehow sharing these demo's is a bad thing, but selling them and making a huge profit is not a problem? Again, I'm not tryin to piss people off with this, but I'm really REALLY curious what the deal is. It makes no sense to me. If I was an artist, I wouldn't give a shit if people put my music out there, but if someone was sellin MY MUSIC and making a nice profit off it, I sure as hell would be pissed off.
Again, I'm just tryin to understand, so please, no personal attacks people...

Re: Every Other Demo I Have (sorry for flooding the board)
WOW!! Good fuckin shit, Jaz. I loved reading that blog post cuz it mentions the city I'm from... MILPITAS!! I didn't personally know him back then, but plenty of people I was friends with and went to school with knew him. And a couple of people I was cool with in High School lived on the same street as him (supposedly). Charizma & Peanut Butter Wolf would record at a studio in San Jose that was just across the Milpitas border and was literally 1 mile down the street from my neighborhood. Crazy shit. Also from Milpitas was the Architect (formerly G-Luv) who's from the group Homeliss Derilex. He & I actually went to middle and high school together, but I haven't seen him in a minute. Encore also went to Milpitas High, but I didn't know him cuz he was 2 years ahead of me. And back to the Architect, my long-time homie Da Hermit, who's a producer and has a studio in San Jose, just told me 2 weeks ago when we ran into eachother that the Architect has been comin by his studio. I'll probably try to go say whattup when I know he's gonna be there... gotta ask him about some Homeliss Derilex shit that I know he has in the vaults and try to convince him to put some of that shit out, preferably on vinyl. hahaJaz wrote:1993Code: Select all

Re: Every Other Demo I Have (sorry for flooding the board)
To answer your questions all questions....
1) I won't be posting the Tribe Called Quest demo (at least any time soon)
2) requesting demos isn't like requesting 12" singles or albums. they don't just pop up. the ONLY demos I've ever found were in one place in bunches. they almost always came from radio personalities or talent buyers at major labels. these people either threw them out or hold onto them. the artists usually gave them away and since they were hand produced they were only given to the top guys. most are 1 of a kind or 1 of 5 or 10. how many survived? no clue. but if you were handed a homemade tape that wasn't considered good now would you hold onto it for 20+ years?
3) when I say I don't have consent it means it's hard to track down any of these artists. they released one demo and fell off planet earth. in my experience of tracking down the artists one of few things actually happens.
A) they want nothing to do with what is considered their old crappy music. some are men of god now and look down on their music as a bad time in their life with extreme negativity. most try to push their new music which is pretty awful etc. I want nothing to do with it.
B) the well known artists get mad. when a demo is passed off and someone signs that artist they own the rights to said material. case in point: I tried to authenticate the ATCQ demo through a friend who speaks to Tip on a regular basis. he verified it was the first demo. he showed interest in it. he kind of made it seem like it should be handed to him. I had no use for it. I recorded it. sold it. why? because I paid for it. I do this for a living. I tried to line up a buyer privately for these tapes and was met with a bunch of brokers who wanted basically peanuts so they could turn around and triple the price. that's my job. so as soon as I listed it on eBay the Twitter smear campaign started. Tip was like "demo ain't real" etc etc...
YouTube is an avenue for old artists to find their old music. to be able to share it and not expose it I said no YouTube. not because I don't have the consent, but because it's less frustration and dealing with artists who expect something out of it.

Re: Every Other Demo I Have (sorry for flooding the board)
side note: me selling one single demo tape to a collector is different than sharing it with a tight knit community and having one person posting it on YouTube and/or having it possibly bootlegged by people and making a profit off someones forgotten gems...
i tried to track down all the artists that made quality demos. DWG got in touch with Emskee. the artist was taken care of and it saw a successful release.
I talked to Rob of Freedom TROOP but one member of the group was skeptical of having music back in his life...it hit a dead end.
every other artist wasn't able to be contacted.....or the music was really hit or miss and i never tried....
DMX and ATCQ? what's the point? Jive and whoever DMX was signed to have rights to those demos and they WOULD never be cleared for licensing.....
tried to contact Jazzy Jay about the King Sun thing and he ignored me. but it was one song so i kind of said "fuck it..."

he kind of made it seem like it should be handed to him.
I make sure to tell Q-Tip he is a faggot when I see him on the streets of New York.
Nobs THX for the Demos again - what about the 5th track on the DMX demo aka the Original Spellbound? Could you hook that up?
Somebody should try to establish connection with the WU (fam) - there should be piles of demos. Dark Skinned Assassin anyone?
Ill Adrenaline was said to be working with B 1 - they should ask for 90ies stuff - them 12 s was dope.

what a grim outlook. i feel disheartened . i'm suprised most of these guys would care that some obscure demo of theirs was put out, especially for those that don't want anything to do with their music. why are the people that own the rights/demos sitting on them?
Re: Every Other Demo I Have (sorry for flooding the board)
when a rapper finds god they look back at when they objectified women, smoked tons of weed and brandished guns and go "I was a fool?"atlantiswasreal wrote:what a grim outlook. i feel disheartened . i'm suprised most of these guys would care that some obscure demo of theirs was put out, especially for those that don't want anything to do with their music. why are the people that own the rights/demos sitting on them?
why are the majors sitting on unreleased material? they're not. if they do have material they don't care if a small group of rap nerds will buy something. lady gaga sells more. but if I approached Jive and said I wanna put out this Tribe demo best believe they'd say no or ask for a ridiculous sum.
